Job description

Quantitative analyst to support US rates & credit strategy team and assisting deliver a strong Fixed Income Research product
The ultimate aim is to identify and communicate trade and portfolio recommendations to external clients and internal stakeholders

Role and Responsibilities:

Skills:
· Apply financial analytical techniques to support market recommendations and investment ideas. Excel modeling skills required, VBA programing experience preferred.
· Practical math background, such as a degree in engineering is strongly preferred.
· The successful applicant must enjoy working on a team, have excellent communications skills and the ability to quickly master a range of systems and fixed income products.
Support functions:
· “Own” all support functions and responsibilities required for smooth and efficient conduct of the strategy effort, including regular monitoring of valuation tools, updates of client marketing presentation decks and Client relationship management systems.
· Master research publishing process (proofing final drafts, researching and preparing all underlying data for charts & tables, formatting and managing the compliance processes.
· Coordinate with strategy colleagues across HSBC global Fixed Income Research team.
Publication Requirements:
· Contribute to US Macro Credit and Rate Strategy publications, such the Weekly Analysts' Meeting, Fixed Income Asset Allocation (monthly), Credit Strategy Flashnotes/Commentaries, and Chartpacks and Multi asset updates (ad hoc).

Principal Accountabilities
· Supports current and develop additional computer systems for US Strategy.
· Contributes to FI publication suite
· Apply financial analytical techniques to data to support market recommendations and investment ideas
· Ensures compliance monitoring is in place, including processes for management of operational risk, in accordance with HSBC and regulatory standards.
Decision Making Responsibility
· Uses initiative and independent judgment to analyze, problem solve and proactively respond to internal staff and external client issues. Expected to make the necessary decisions to carry out own job responsibilities and meet primary goals and objectives. Evaluates and escalates complex issues and/or problems to manager.
Management of Risk
· Each employee must be aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with the role and acts in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations.
· Each employee must ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.
· Each employee must promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.
Observation of Internal Controls
· Each employee must maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators. Any failures to comply with the above should be reflected in year-end performance assessments.
· Each employee must understand, follow and demonstrate compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy.

Desired profile

Qualifications :

·  2-5 years research analysis experience; 2 years experience with financial modeling and/or forecasting
·  Strong quantitative skills, college degree in engineering or quantitative field
·  NASD Series 7 and Series 63 registered
·  Strong verbal and written communication skills
·  Experience with C and VBA Excel programming, along with use of programming tools for Excel, Market, and Mathlab
·  CFA

Qualifications - External

·  Strong quantitative skills, undergraduate degree in engineering, economics, or quantitative field
