Job description

The role of the Shift Engineer is to carry out all necessary installation, maintenance and operation associated with the entire mechanical and Electrical infrastructure and associated building services supporting the Data Centre, which are essential in maintaining the integrity of IT Services. Additionally the Shift Engineer is accountable to the Engineering Shift Manager and is part of a multi skilled mechanical and electrical team.

Your responsibilities will include:

· Operation and maintenance of complex engineering systems, ensuring that work is completed to the applicable standards, within agreed timescales and with no disruption to IT Services.
· Implement effective emergency operating procedures to ensure system recovery is achieved with minimum impact to services, escalating and raising awareness as appropriate.
· Scheduling and managing the planned, preventative and reactive maintenance of engineering systems and infrastructure, whilst ensuring work is completed within agreed timescales and to the expected quality.
· Other dimensions of the role include the scheduling and execution of all required infrastructure installations required to support IT Hardware & Equipment.
· Improving service quality, by continuously reviewing and enhancing methods of operation and maintenance, effectively utilising tools and system employed with the Group Data Centres.
· The jobholder is responsible for the reliability and continuous operation of all engineering and building services.
· Ensure current Health & Safety legislation and statutory requirements are met by implementing and developing safe working practices and procedures.
· This includes the continuous development, implementation and review of engineering standards and procedures within the department.
· Resolving operational issues, making concise, accurate, informed and timely decisions and where required without reference, thereby, ensuring the integrity of infrastructure is maintained in support of IT Services.

Desired profile

Qualifications :

The ideal candidate for this role will have the below experience and qualifications:

·  Acquired a range of technical skills and experience within a engineering environment
·  NVQ III/BTEC HNC or equivalent qualification in Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering
·  Worked in a fast paced, ever changing market
·  A track record of gaining an understanding of customers' needs and delivering excellent customer service
·  A flexible and adaptable approach to change and will support others to respond in a similar way
·  Experience of supporting others' performance, enabling them to achieve by providing clear direction, motivation and support
·  Experience of making prompt and practical business decision, even in times of ambiguity, considering various perspectives and taking responsibility for outcome

In addition to the details listed above, the ideal candidate will have a track record of:
·  experience of working with complex systems
·  Data Centre environment
·  Air conditioning, Water systems, Power (HV & LV), DRUPS and UPS

The base location of this role will be South Yorkshire Group Data Centre
