Key Objectives for Retail Credit Underwriter (Mortgage Broker Channel):


Provide underwriting for Independent Broker mortgage loans, ensuring loans are high quality and conform to investor and secondary market requirements and internal lending policies to protect Company interests.

Principle Accountabilities:
· Understand and follow procedures / policies developed for HSBC dealings with Independent Broker applications.
· Review and verify preliminary documentation uploaded with applications;
· Credit Bureaus
· Income documents
· Asset & Investment documents
· Other sundry documents
· Review and verify secondary documentation uploaded with applications;
· Purchase agreements
· Letter of undertaking re bridge loans
· Liability documents
· Title search
· Other sundry documents
· Review and verify fulfillment documentation uploaded with applications;
· Appraisal valuations
· Appraisal high risk attributes
· Letter of undertaking re bridge loans
· Confirm pledged security
· Security documents
· Other sundry documents
· Decision applications within authority and scope of delegated Letter of Authority.
· Finalize applications and document rationale for decision accordingly
· Provide timely, concise and judicious reporting of credit decisions to Independent Brokers.
· Remain available to Independent Brokers to clarify / rationalize credit decisions by direct communication.
· Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets.
· Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC Brand.
· Action suspected / confirmed Fraud advice with speed and diligence.
· Gain Credit HSBC Policy, Credit initiatives and Proficiency via on the job training, individual performance assessment, review of established Credit Policies and Guidelines with periodic proficiency examination.
· Performing routine activities and processes within scope of the role, ensuring accuracy and quality control.
· Assess and escalate any identified risk issues as required.
· Understand and adhere to established Credit Policies and Guidelines at all times.
· Support HSBC change initiatives and escalate concerns as identified.
· Ensure all employees are aware of and effectively identify and manage applicable money laundering (ML), terrorist financing (TF), sanctions and reputational risks.
· Complete other responsibilities as assigned

Desired profile



Qualifications :

Knowledge & experience / Qualifications:

·  Experience of HSBC systems and processes including WMS and ClientCONNECT (mortgage application).
·  Detail oriented with strong typing skills and keen understanding of the need for quality control and accuracy and timely delivery.
·  Strong technical skills in reviewing and establishing the credibility of documents uploaded to support independently sourced Broker credit applications.
·  Experience and confidence in assessing and adjudicating credit risk within the scope and authority of defined limits.
