Role Purpose

· Based in London, the Analyst (Risk & Valuations Data Quality) will be in a team responsible for ensuring the production of complete, accurate and timely, risk and valuation data. The role will support managing the operation and controls as is today, but also support the articulation and delivery of the new target operating model as required under the Bank's various Future State programmes. The team will have staff based in the Bank's major hubs in order to engage with the relevant stakeholders and act as the key conduit for the main operations performed in the Global Service Centres (GSC).

· Global Markets has created a Global Markets Middle Office (GMMO) organisation within Global Markets Operations. It is a multi-year programme bringing together activities from FO Trade Support, Global Markets Operations, PC and Traded Risk.

· The role is to support one of the core components within Risk & Valuations Data Quality (RVQ) – Market Risk Data. The key elements of this role will be:

· Support the implementation of standardised risk and valuation control and data production, providing a support service model to all end users, efficiently delivering data and reporting within a robust control framework, for areas such as PC, Reg Finance, Traded Risk and Front Office.

· Participate in articulating the departmental needs as a key stakeholder in the delivery of the Bank's Future State architectures and the associated Target Operating Model around it, to ensure that appropriate controls are implemented and the integrity of the underlying data production

· Support various new initiatives related to data governance and control such as CDO & support/establish necessary data governance practices

· Support the Head of Market Risk Data RVQ and Head of RVQ as required

Key Accountabilities

Impact on Business

· To support definition and implementation of a global Market Risk Data RVQ team

· Support the definition and roll out of globally standardised and consistent practices and controls within the Market Risk Data team and its processes

· Provide appropriate SME support to stakeholders, such as Traded Risk, PC, IT, GM Operations

· Support the Market Risk Data teams in the GSC locations in terms of daily production and process and task migration to the GSC

· Support the engagement on behalf of RVQ Market Risk Data for all process and technology changes to ensure the requirements of RVQ are always met

· Assist in timely, complete and accurate execution of the processes and controls within Market Risk Data

· Assist Market Risk Data to align with the strategic direction of Operational, Business, Compliance, Audit, Technology and other key stakeholders and infrastructure partners.

· Help RVQ in ensuring HSBC is suitably prepared for all the relevant existing and future internal and external demands (regulatory, Audit, BRCM, Operational Risk)

· Works seamlessly and collaboratively representing Market Data risk with businesses and functions in appropriate forums and ongoing communications.

· Encourages and champions the importance of a positive end customer experience, recognising the wider importance of Global Markets Operations, contributing to a controlled and efficient end-to-end operational model.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

· Support the continuing development or transformation of Markets Operations operating model to ensure the business operates increasingly effectively and efficiently and is able to deliver HSBC's strategic goals.

· Support establishing and maintaining a robust and efficient control environment across Markets Operations to ensure good operational, financial and project management and compliance with HSBC policy and procedures, together with early identification and effective resolution of issues that arise

· Support the development, implementation and maintenance of a Global Markets Operations management information, analysis and reporting framework that supports and informs timely and effective business management and decision making at all levels

· Support the definition and embedding of Global Markets Operations policy and governance frameworks across GM Operations to ensure quality, effective risk management and regulatory compliance

Major Challenges

· Support the transfer in of functions from other areas to ensure an effective and controlled migration into the new organisation

· Managing many parallel competing data deliveries in a globally diverse organisation

· Improving the efficiency and controls in the face of cost and regulatory challenges across both HSBC and the Industry

Role Context

· The role will require strong technical, communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders and customers globally

· The role will require innovation, creativity and strong delivery focus within a structured and well controlled operating environment

· The role may require a good understanding of regulatory challenges and how they impact the Market Risk Data and RVQ teams

Management of Risk

· Incumbent must proactively drive the identification, assessment, and mitigation of all internal and external risks.

· Incumbent must be aware of the Regulatory risk and requirements and ensure effective implementation of controls, processes and metrics to evidence effective adherence to the regulatory agenda.

Observation of Internal Controls

· The jobholder will adhere to, and be able to demonstrate adherence to, internal controls and will implement the Group compliance policy by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures.

· The term ‘compliance' embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.

· The following statement is only for roles with managerial or specific Compliance responsibilities

· The jobholder will implement measures to contain compliance risk across the business area. This will be achieved by liaising with Compliance department about business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.

Desired profile

Qualifications :

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications

· Prior Middle Office, Risk or Finance experience from a Tier One bank preferred, but not essential

· Data management and data governance experience advantageous

· Strong understanding of the investment banking business and products - knowledge of front to back processes within an Investment / Capital Markets environment is essential

· Robust understanding of trade and transaction lifecycle and all associated risk and controls is core to the role.

· Relevant experience of dealing with Front Office (preferably from a trading floor environment), Middle Office and Back Office stakeholders
