HPE Labs are committed to the fast and seamless transfer of advanced technologies into next generation products and solutions; enabling the delivery of advanced Hybrid IT and IoT solutions for our customers.
We are currently seeking highly qualified, self-motivated interns to accelerate research towards new applications, core methodologies and technologies in Artificial Intelligence at Hewlett Packard Labs.
Hewlett Packard Labs is an international research organization with its headquarters and largest facility located in Milpitas, California. As the central research organization for Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Hewlett Packard Labs' purpose is to deliver breakthrough technologies and technology advancements that provide a competitive advantage for the company, by investing in fundamental science and technology in areas of interest to HPE and getting the resulting technologies ready for adoption into new and existing markets.
The Artificial Intelligence Lab research group focus on researching and developing technologies, architectures and software to develop cutting edge solutions in key areas of Deep Learning and Machine Learning, including Reinforcement Learning and Natural Language Processing. This is a unique opportunity to work at a start-up pace within a big company. We are looking for an entrepreneurial mind-set, and a deep passion to take a ML problem and conduct research and come up with a solution with a fast turnaround time. You will have an opportunity to work with Machine Learning experts who have made multiple successful products and will get guidance and coaching in different areas including software engineering, hardware optimizations, data pipelining, and innovations from latest AI research to bring hardened Deep Learning solutions to the real world.
This is a new and growing team at HPE in which you will be building the software, and applications for Neural Network and Machine Learning. It will also involve working with system programming, Deep Learning frameworks and models, GPU acceleration, Model optimization, real-time streaming data, distributed computing, and deployment.
We are seeking highly qualified candidates to come join one of our research teams as an intern, with the possibility of longer-term co-innovation and collaboration. We are particularly interested in individuals with a background in computer systems, machine learning, deep learning, and statistics, with a good understanding of the current state of the art, major trends and opportunities, and a demonstrated track record in making things real in innovative ways. The ideal candidate combines this interest with a broad, entrepreneurial interest in creating the next generation of HPE’s products and technologies.
We expect all our researchers (including interns and post-docs) to provide thought leadership and technical influence both internally and externally to HPE, as well as take innovative ideas and make them real – contributing along the full range from initial novel ideas to design, development, implementation, evaluation, and technology transfer. The ideal candidate can thrive in an applied research environment, balancing significant technical and scientific contributions with the ability to bring such contributions to practice through innovative solutions that address the needs of our customers and partners. We expect the successful candidate to collaborate with HP Labs research teams as well as with external partners, and to work in alignment with HPE's broader innovation community. Excellent software systems building skills are a significant plus.

Pursuing or recently completed PhD degree (or other degree with significant research and innovation experience) in a relevant discipline (e.g. machine learning, computer science, electrical engineering, math, statistics, etc.)
0-2 years relevant experience
Track record of world-class innovative contributions and ideas in machine learning.
Experience with innovative solution development, such as developing proofs-of-concept, first-of-a-kind solutions, and/or technology transfer.
Experience in deep learning research
Experience in developing deep learning software with high proficiency in data structures and algorithms.
Strong programming skills and experience with Python, C/C++, and preferably Java
Software development experience in Deep Learning, GPU acceleration, and Model Optimization.
Experience in Deep Learning and Machine Learning frameworks and models like Tensorflow, PyTorch - required
Experience in system software, GPU acceleration, DL model execution and performance optimization - desired
Experience in Neural Network architectures for Reinforcement Learning and natural language processing - desired
