Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi made a wow debut in 2019 and is already recognized as one of the finest resort in the world. Sprawled across three islands, the resort is one of the most sizable in the Maldives. It boasts the country’s largest spa, extensive recreation facilities and it’s the Maldives resort with the most culinary choices (an impressive 11 specialty cuisine dining options). Besides its 117 luxurious villas, the resort is also home to an exclusive offering: a private island, the largest in the country which is to be rented out in its entirety.

Once you get a glimpse of this sun-soaked nirvana, size is almost beside the point. Luxurious villas act as vast private indoor-outdoor playgrounds, each featuring its own private pool. Everywhere you look, from your standalone villa bathtub to the glass-bottomed floors in the spa’s treatment pavilions, the azure water steals the show.

JOB DESCRIPTION

WHAT WILL I BE DOING?

The Assistant Chief Sommelier serving Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, you are responsible to assist the Chief Sommelier, managing and providing assistance to all food and beverage outlets according to Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi Service Delivery Standards, in order to deliver maximum profit and guest satisfaction, on a consistent basis. This position is concerned with the responsibility of the quality, profitability and sales of the overall wine and beverage experience in the property. Responsible for wine training within the property and therefore works closely with the training manager and any external wine consultants or suppliers. Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

Maintain a strong guest service focus and proactively respond to guest needs.

Take personal responsibility to resolve issues and communicate clearly with guests and colleagues.

Demonstrate motivation, commitment, and enthusiasm while continuously learning new skills.

Contribute ideas to improve operational and environmental procedures within the resort.

Promote the services and facilities of Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts and Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi.

Ensure safety standards and follow policies related to fire, hygiene, health, and workplace safety.

· 
Uphold True Waldorf Service and the “Live Unforgettable” brand philosophy.

· 
Maintain professional appearance, grooming standards, punctuality, and correct uniform.

· 
Provide friendly, efficient, accurate, and polite service to guests at all times.

· 
Collaborate closely with all resort departments to ensure excellent guest experiences and profitable operations.

· 
Manage and maintain updated wine and beverage lists, including pricing and cost control.

· 
Demonstrate expert knowledge of wines, vintages, and pairings, recommending appropriate selections to guests.

· 
Ensure proper wine storage, handling, equipment maintenance, and supplier coordination.

· 
Monitor industry trends, maintain relationships with wineries and importers, and recommend improvements.

· 
Train and develop F&B team members to enhance beverage knowledge and upselling skills.

· 
Monitor Stay Experience results and implement improvements to enhance guest experience.

· 
Manage beverage inventory, stock rotation, forecasting, ordering, and cost control to meet revenue targets.

· 
Organize and host wine events, including regular wine dinners and special beverage experiences for guests.

 

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?  

An Assistant Chief Sommelier serving Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi is always working on behalf of our Guests and working with other Team Members. To successfully fill this role, you should maintain the attitude, behaviours, skills, and values that follow: 

· 
WSET Level 2 or Level 3 certification is required

· 
Previous experience in a luxury hotel, resort, or fine dining environment is preferred

· 
Strong knowledge of international wines, vintages, and professional wine service standards

· 
Experience in wine cellar management, stock control, and inventory systems

· 
Passion for delivering exceptional levels of guest service

 

· 
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and guest service skills

 

· 
Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-end hospitality environment.

· 
Fluency in one of the following languages is preferred: Russian, French, or Chinese
