Principal Bioanalytical Scientist

  • Stevenage (Hertfordshire)

Job description

Your Responsibilities :
GSK is a world leading research-based pharmaceutical company that combines both individual talent and technical resources to create a platform for the delivery of strong growth in a rapidly changing healthcare market. Our mission is to improve the quality of human life by enabling people to do more, feel better and live longer.

Biopharm Discovery is a department dedicated to the discovery of novel and effective biopharmaceutical medicines. This department comprises several complementary functions focused on the progression of a portfolio of biopharmaceuticals from initial antibody discovery, expression and characterisation to molecular engineering and biological and physiochemical profiling.

Within the Biopharm Discovery Unit, the Molecular Design and Engineering (MDE) group takes accountability for antibody engineering and developability profiling prior to candidate selection to continuously improve molecule quality and transform discovered leads into potential therapeutics.

We are currently seeking an experienced laboratory scientist with a deep understanding of antibody analytics to join the developability profiling group within MDE. The predominantly lab-based role will involve developing and performing high throughput analytical methods/screens (existing and/or new) to rapidly profile a large panel of biopharmaceuticals based on their biophysical and chemical stability properties. The candidate will be expected to act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in antibody analytics and characterisation in order to recommend selection of suitable candidates that produce the desired developability characteristics.

You will have the opportunity to both lead projects and build capability, for example in automated workflows, and will be expected to influence scientific direction within the group.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in characterizing antibodies in analytical techniques such as mass spectrophotometry, light scattering, HPLC, spectroscopy etc. They will be abreast of the latest literature and developments in the field. Although predominantly lab-based, the role also involves important aspects of verbal and written communication and requires good organisation as well as a broader scientific knowledge. You will be expected to develop, train and mentor junior members of staff, and will have demonstrated problem solving skills. Both individual and team working are required and therefore the role will suit a scientist with good interpersonal skills, abilities in data analytics, independence and self-motivation.

Closing date for applications: 2nd December 2019

During the course of your application you will be requested to complete voluntary information which will be used in monitoring the effectiveness of our equality and diversity policies. Your information will be treated as confidential and will not be used in any part of the selection process.

Thank you for your interest in this opportunity.
