Job description

Your Responsibilities :
Job Purpose: Mechanical and utility system operational authority for the biopharmaceutical process facility. Plans and implements the operation, modifications to, and maintenance of mechanical and utility systems (HVAC, Boilers, Chillers, Cooling Towers, Purified Water Systems, Compressed Air/Gas, CIP Skids) and their distribution. Also responsible for the maintenance and improvement of broader site architecture and facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
• Manage a team of building mechanic staff in the operation, maintenance, repair and alteration of building utility services such as compressed air, compressed gases, CIP systems, plant steam boilers, chillers, cooling towers, water treatment, PUW, and WFI systems, refrigeration units, HVAC systems.
• Manage a team that coordinates and executes approximately 1000 work orders in a calendar year over a 24/7 operation.
• Technical input and management of all activities above including task list modifications, statutory requirements (boilers, pressure vessels, waste services), service interruptions, and safety initiatives.
• Own the main site utility areas (boiler areas, chiller area, water purification areas, and all equipment in them related to housekeeping, proper maintenance, proper operation, and .
• Be “end-user” feedback in all utilities and facilities CAPEX projects such as generation equipment replacements, process equipment upgrades, facility upgrades, etc. Input into master planning of all site projects and facility/utility equipment.
• Lead a zero accidents culture in team with strong emphasis on proper training, rigorous LOTO, full use of PTW, and speak up and slow down mindset. Hire and manage contractors that adhere fully to above mindset.
• Investigates and helps solve technical problems that involve operation of the facility utility equipment and its reliability. Works with appropriate parties to investigate all adverse equipment and facility related events. Ensures robust corrective actions are in place to prevent recurrence of problems.
• Develops and/or reviews Standard Operating Procedures applicable to the department.

Why You?

Basic qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree in Engineering with 1-3 years of related work experience or other degree with 10 years of related work experience.
• Prior experience with engineering and/or operation of utility systems – boilers, chillers, HVAC, compressors, pump systems.
• Hand-on and practical operational experience in a 24/7 environment working directly with heavy, complex, and dangerous equipment
• Ability to supervise and direct operational staff in daily activities and develop individual capabilities of the team members. Prior supervisory experience preferred.
• Familiar with cGMP's, regulatory guidelines, governmental codes, and standard operating procedure.
• Strong communications skills, both verbal and written.
• Skills and knowledge to serve as a resource and leader to less experienced employees.

Preferred qualifications:
Engineering degree is preferred but not required with extensive utility system operation and maintenance experience.
