In the heart of rural Teesdale, the GSK site at Barnard Castle is a key member of the Global Manufacturing and Supply (GMS) organization producing some of the world's leading dermatological, sterile, inhaled and oral medicines for a wide range of diseases including MRSA, leukaemia and HIV.
To help enable us to strengthen and increase capacity & capability across the site, we are looking to appoint a number of high-calibre Microbiology Technologists within the Microbiology Department at the Barnard Castle site. Your areas of responsibility may include:
• microbiological testing of sterile and non-sterile products
• support NPI/project work from a microbiology perspective
• support complex microbiology investigations and resolution of CAPA linked to these investigations
• microbiological sampling in Process Monitoring ie. environmental control, water sampling and preparation of Biological Indicators
• ability to work in a highly regulated environment with a focus on aseptic working practices, attention to detail and right first time
• support microbiology transformation activity using active scheduling and other OE tools
• microbiological testing of raw materials
• identification of microbial isolates
• manufacture of microbiological growth media
• develop and validate new test methodology.
• ensure a safe working environment for self and team
• shift working maybe required
The successful candidate will have:
• minimum education to A-level standard. Microbiology or related science based Degree, or HNC/HND in Applied Biology preferred
• practical knowledge in at least 1 area of Pharmaceutical Microbiology ie. Process Monitoring, Endotoxin testing, Product Testing, Sterilisation, Biological Indicators, Microbial identification, Disinfection, Waters, Media Preparation
• practical knowledge of microbiological laboratory skills, aseptic technique, cleanroom control and GLP
• knowledge of OE tools and principles ie. active scheduling of workload, prioritisation, waste identification and elimination
• good teamwork skills
• effective communication skills (verbal and written)
• passion for driving change
• be self motivated and proactive
• working knowledge of corporate computer systems ie. LIFT, SAP, SPEC, LIMS.
• working knowledge of EHS processes ie. COSHH, manual handling
