Job Summary & Responsibilities

YOUR IMPACT
As a strategist who sits in the Securities Division, you will play an integral role on the trading floor. You may create cutting-edge derivative pricing models and empirical models to provide insight into market behavior, or develop automated trading algorithms for the firm and its clients. You might be involved in analyzing exposures and structuring transactions to meet client needs, or involved in designing and developing complex parallel computing architectures, electronic trading tools, and advanced algorithms. Throughout the Securities Division, strategists are using quantitative and technological techniques to solve complex business problems.

Team Description
Structures in the Securities Division play important roles in several areas. Among them, a group works on structuring solutions to meet client needs with a focus on “technical considerations”, including capital treatment, accounting, tax, credit/counter party risk, legal entities constraints and physical constraints.  This work involves (i) closely collaborating with clients to understand their needs and how those needs intersect with the full range of strategies and physical capabilities offered by the firm, (ii) analyzing the technical considerations of these products, which, in many cases, are client-specific, (iii) calculating and optimizing use of scarce regulatory capital resources (like balance sheet and liquidity) and (iv) executing structured solutions, whether as a one-off transaction or in a manner reusable and scalable across our businesses.

HOW YOU WILL FULFILL YOUR POTENTIAL
• Work with sales/trading/customers to model and pitch derivatives, physical supply/offtake and logistics management deals and credit/funding structures to Americas commodities clients in relevant markets (power, gas, coal, products, crude, metals)
• Partner with sales to proactively build relationships and engage with commodities clients  
• Identify clients who have commodity and other asset class exposure through market segmentation analysis
• Develop trading ideas, portfolio risk analysis, business trends and hedging opportunities to help drive commercial transactions
• Work with trading to translate market risks, trends and forecasts into hedge products for commodities clients
• Interact with corporate clients to develop tools and metrics to understand markets, impact on portfolio and measurement of performance

Basic Qualifications

i. Strong academic background in a relevant field - Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Finance
ii. Knowledge of financial markets / products  - commodities and /or credit markets
iii. Background in analysis for corporate engagement

Preferred Qualifications

i. Experience working on a structuring or trading desk
ii. Strong programming background in a structured language (SecDB, Slang, C, C++, Java, etc)
iii. Commercial focus, team oriented, self-motivated
iv. Ability to solve problems and to explain the ideas that underlie them to clients and colleagues
v. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
