Role Summary/Purpose

Provide project and technical leadership to develop, design, and prototype next generation manufacturing processes applying welding and cladding processes. In addition, as a welding & cladding process engineer, you will provide support to existing factory and field operations for continuous improvement and adaptation of new and different process technologies as they show applicability to legacy operations.
Essential Responsibilities

More specifically you will provide technical leadership on welding/cladding process development; Stretches the boundaries of welding & cladding process applications to support business needs; Collaborates with business teams to specify and implement novel processes; Improves operational robustness by developing advanced controls and diagnostics; Identifies the best manufacturing process options for GE components; Adapts processes to business- and product-specific requirements, constraints, and objectives; Applies deep industrial product knowledge relevant to GE applications; Helps identify, secure, and execute External Contracts relating to Welding-Cladding and novel Additive technologies; Implements automation solutions to support GE process and product needs; Collaborate with external partners, vendors, and GE businesses on product and process design and process tools.

You will: 

·  Work with GE Global Research and GE business units to understand product and factory needs related to joining and manufacturing technology  
·  Develop a vision for future joining technologies and work specific projects to demonstrate and develop the capabilities and tools to realize that vision. 
·  Collaborate with customers and colleagues to formulate detailed plans and technical approaches for shared roadmap execution 
·  Quantify technology business costs and benefits and use data to substantiate technical direction  
·  Proactively identify risks and develop necessary risk reduction strategies 
·  Identify, engage and align relevant partners and stakeholders needed for success 
·  Partner with external companies and universities to bridge skill gaps and technical needs 
·  Assemble technical teams and physical resources necessary to complete project tasks 
·  Work with externals and business customers on manufacturing equipment design, vendor identification, and development
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Ph.D. in Mechanical, Joining, or Materials Engineering or technically relevant field OR an MS degree in Mechanical, Joining, or Materials Engineering or technically relevant field with a minimum of 3 years of experience in welding and cladding for factory, lab, or field operations 
·  Project management and process design skills and experience.  
·  Hands on experience in welding and cladding methods in lab, factory, and/or field operations. 
·  Familiarity with six sigma design tools and data analysis. 
·  Strong aptitude for developing and conducting statistically designed experiments in factory and laboratory conditions. 
·  Experience with factory relevant operations and analytics including quality and operational metrics.  
·  Integrity, technical strength, business focus, passion for excellence, commitment to quality. 
·  Verbal and written communication skills and ability to listen effectively. 
·  Ability to travel in support of GE business needs and projects at facilities around the world. 
·  Weld-Clad relevant materials characteristics and testing methods and measurements
·  Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.  We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

Desired Characteristics

·  Preferred experience areas: 
·  Welding equipment – arc, laser, solid state, EB 
·  Data acquisition system development experience 
·  Electronics and electrical controls familiarity 
·  CNC machine operation 
·  Tooling and fixture hardware design experience 
·  Hands on manufacturing – engineering experience. 
·  Understanding of, and ability to link, technical challenges and decisions to impactful business outcomes. 
·  Comfortable working across organizational boundaries and levels. 
·  In depth knowledge of industrial welding codes and their application to products and processes. For example: NACE; API; ASME BPVC; and AWS D1.1 
·  Familiarity with a broad range of non-welding and non-cladding operations and manufacturing processes will help understanding operational sequencing and
optimization of pre- and post-joining/cladding operations. 
·  Experience working with industrial process and design codes and specifications. 
·  Experience with robotics and automation systems and factory implementations. 
·  Have the basic knowledge when welding and/or cladding dissimilar materials.
