Role Summary/Purpose

The WT19 Platform Team is seeking a System Engineer with demonstrated wind turbine system expertise to provide leadership in the development and implementation of this key project. The successful candidate will be responsible for integrating the Wind Turbine system controls strategies, hardware, and software for all WT19 Platform Wind Turbine products. He /she will perform system tradeoffs, create design requirements, and oversee implementation into platform.
Essential Responsibilities

·  Lead major technical product introduction, cost reduction and field resolution programs for WT19 Platform
·  Responsible for major and complex assignments with long-term business implications. This role contributes to the overall wind technical business strategy.
·  Establish design strategies, multi-generation system and technology plans in conjunction with Platform and Sub-system Managers.
·  Establish “first principle” wind turbine system design methodologies to improve overall system optimization and physics based understanding.
·  Provide key wind turbine system expertise through all phases of product development from requirements definition through design and development, validation and product life-cycle support.
·  Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters.
·  Contribute to new and revised design practices to insure organizational learning.
·  Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company
·  Provide mentorship inside and outside the system organization.
·  Create and approve design memorandums from a product specification, which the design groups will use as the design basis
·  Provide the technical input for quoting limits definition.
·  Create customer facing documents
·  Lead strategic initiatives (MGTP, tools, app space, etc.)
·  Lead conceptual designs and trade-offs
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor of Science in Controls Engineering, Wind Systems Engineering or equivalent

·  Substantial experience in a controls and/or wind turbine engineering capacity
·  Able to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers

·  Strong oral and written communication skills in English language

Desired Characteristics

·  Substantial experience in developing platform strategies, multi-generation product and technology plans.
·  Ph.D./Advanced degree in Mechanical or Wind Systems Engineering with renewable energy emphasis preferred. 
·  Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business
·  Familiarity with a variety of engineering areas. Major Product or Component Design Experience
·  Track record of solving tough technical problems. Has demonstrated ability to lead/guide major technology initiatives.
·  Experience leading cross-functional teams and multi-disciplinary teams of all levels. Strong Team Builder.
·  NPI tools and techniques experience
·  Demonstrated experience and success in writing technical papers and patent applications.
·  Has established standard practices and solved significant technical problems in wind system design. 
·  Fluency in German and/or Spanish would be a plus.
