Role Summary/Purpose

The Staff Engineer- Electric Power Systems will apply new & existing technology in the field of aviation electrical power such as: MEA (More Electric Aircraft) and HEP (Hybrid Electric Propulsion) aircraft. In this role, you will lead and deliver in all aspects of Aviation Power Systems including: Power Generation, Conversion, and Distribution; Energy Storage & Management; Systems Architecture; and Power System Modeling & Simulation.
Essential Responsibilities

·  Provide guidance in the aerospace power systems product domain and knowledge in the area of aerospace electric power system hardware, systems, and software
·  Responsible for design, test and troubleshooting skills in power electronics, analog / digital circuits, AC / DC converters / inverters, battery management systems, motor control and control systems with the involvement of manufacturing / mechanical / software engineers and supply management
·  Perform simulations and design verification to ensure electronic assemblies meet the requirements of harsh environments for the aviation applications
·  Conduct experimental tests and evaluate results, including electromagnetic compliance (EMC), electromagnetic immunity (EMI), as well as various electrical & environmental tests
·  Provide technical support to marketing, manufacturing, quality, and sourcing organizations
·  Define key technology / proficiency / IP gaps for the product area
·  Coordinate technical support of product area relevant industry working groups and conferences
·  Provide technical mentorship for a team of engineers for all product design aspects of the assigned system 

Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
·  Minimum of 10 years of experience in an engineering position 

Desired Characteristics

·  Advanced degree from an accredited university or college
·  Experience in electronic hardware design and development for aviation electrical power applications
·  Experience crafting embedded controls for power electronics
·  Power electronics circuit design, control of power generation and conversion, circuit testing and debugging, electrical system design, using modeling and simulation tools such as: Spice, Matlab, and Simulink
·  Design and implementation of digital systems on different DSP and FPGA platforms is a plus
·  An understanding of military and commercial qualification specifications including MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD461, DO-160, and DO-254
·  Developing battery power system requirement and performing study for energy storage, controls and protections is desired
·  Understand packaging aspects of power distribution with special emphasis of thermal and EMI design
·  Prior work experience in aerospace power generation / conversion products
