Role Summary/Purpose

GE Aviation supports a broad range of data platforms, ranging from Big Data to Enterprise Data Visualization, that drive hundreds of millions of dollars of productivity annually

To enable this, the role of Sr Data DevOps Engineer is essential to ensuring highly automated, available, performant and scalable data platforms, both for on premise and Cloud solutions

In this role, you'll also investigate & extend platform capabilities to both enable and develop innovative solutions

Essential Responsibilities

As Sr. Data DevOps Engineer will develop a deep understanding of GE Data Visualization platforms and operations processes and utilize expertise to solve problems.
The DevOps Engineer will be responsible for regular on-call shifts for systems support and need to troubleshoot and fix problems in a timely manner. The DevOps Engineer will also both support, automate, and develop on the platforms offered, as well as research creative ways to improve performance and availability, including automation and integration with modern monitoring and log correlation tools.

In addition, the Sr Data DevOps Engineer will :

·  Plan, install, and configure data visualization (especially Tibco Spotfire) and monitoring platforms across both on-premise virtual machines and in Amazon Web Services

·  Provide support for new applications and upgrades to existing systems, ensuring overall system stability

·  Design solutions to technical problems and implementation of new systems or infrastructure changes

·  Design and develop automated testing solutions for production code migrations

·  Troubleshoot software and hardware failures and identify network problems

·  Perform platform and process optimization, documentation, performance tuning, and technical solution investigation

·  Produce automated platform installation, upgrade, patching and configuration scripts

·  Integrate logs from multiple, disparate systems in the data platform ecosystem to enable wing-to-wing alerting and automated recovery from upstream failures

·  Provide performance and availability dashboards

·  Architect and consult with internal and external customers on scalable data solutions

·  Operate in Agile framework, creating user stories from and tasks from customer requirements to track project progress.

Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent (STEM) from an accredited university or college

·  Minimum of 2 years of IT experience

·  A minimum of 1 year supporting Big Data (Hadoop, Cassandra, etc.) or Enterprise Data Visualization (Spotfire, Tableau, etc.) platforms

Desired Characteristics

The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of systems experience, with the ability to quickly learn new and unfamiliar technologies.

Specifically, you'll have

·  Demonstrated proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, etc.)

·  Demonstrated proficiency in at least one OS shell language (*Nix shell, Powershell, etc.)

·  At least 2 years of experience with developing on or supporting Tibco Spotfire 7.x in an enterprise environment

·  Demonstrated proficiency in JavaScript

·  Experience with automation and configuration management tool suites (Chef, Puppet, etc.)

·  Certified in Amazon Web Services SysOps Administration

·  Experience with enterprise monitoring tool suites (BigPanda, New Relic, etc.)

·  Solid understanding of load balancing, DNS, horizontal scaling, and SOAP and RESTful APIs

·  Experience with Agile project delivery frameworks

·  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially with product owners

·  Self-driven to learn new technology and build technical skill sets
