Role Summary/Purpose

The MWC Drivetrain Technical Leader will lead and execute engineering work to support the growing Onshore Wind business in the MWC segment with focus on the Gearbox sub-system, low speed couplings, mounts and lube systems.

Essential Responsibilities

The Technical Leader will lead a team of engineers for product and technology development for wind turbine gearboxes and be the design focal point with suppliers in new product development, fleet support and to meet the global Onshore Wind Drivetrain near-term and long-term technology road map needs. The main responsibilities include New Product Introduction designs & release process, external supplier specifications and interactions, improving initial quality of our production drivetrain / gearboxes, fleet technical support, overall drivetrain dynamics as well as reliability and cost out improvements.

In this role, you will be responsible for the execution of NPI, requisition support and fleet projects to improve product performance, quality and to simplify necessary engineering work during the full life cycle of wind turbine drivetrains/ gearboxes. The Technical Leader will provide technical work direction, mentoring and on-going feedback to engineers that work within MWC drivetrain engineering team for growing the team and designs with our suppliers.  The Technical Leader will work cross functionally with systems engineering, product line, validation, sourcing and sourcing quality teams. 

In addition, you will:
·  Lead the design team for drivetrain gearboxes with new product designs and integration to Machine Head systems integration and with detailed knowledge of the gearbox (gears/ bearing/ lubrication/ structures)
·  Manage the key design road map progress and validation tests of supplier manufactured gearboxes and key support equipment (mounts, couplings, lube systems)
·  Manage field and test engineering data collection, validations and transforming the lessons learned into designs
·  Coordinate key tasks cross-functionally with engineers, quality teams, sourcing, planning, field support and suppliers
·  Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing on production issues and resolution options
·  Work closely with customers, customer support/ fleet support teams and systems engineering on fleet issues and improvement determinations
·  Ensure project schedules are met
·  Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
·  Improve design practice rules and documentation for continuous improvement of the drivetrain
·  Work to develop and execute the necessary tests to validate and prove robustness of the gearbox and auxiliary component designs

Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar from an accredited college or university
·  Minimum of 10 years design engineering experience
·  Minimum 3 years drive train/ power transmission experience

·  KISSsoft/MASTA or similar gear design tool experience
·  Willingness and ability to travel for 10% of time
·  Quality / Lean process focus and experience
·  Experience with roller bearing life calculation and analysis methods
