Role Summary/Purpose
The Protection & Control Customer Site Engineer - Field Services will be responsible for performing a wide variety of field related activities, including installation, testing, commissioning, etc. of Protection & Control systems in medium and HV environment. In this role, you will establish and maintain a strong working relationship with customers and be responsible for ensuring safe work practices on each job as GE values safety very highly.
Essential Responsibilities
As the Protection & Control Customer Site Engineer - Field Services, you will:
· Perform installation, testing and commissioning services on power apparatus and switchgear, including (but not limited to) the following:
· Protective relays and relaying systems, all brands, and experience with the use of relay test sets
· Remote terminal units and gateways
· CT’s and PT’s
· Metering and transducers
· Motors, feeders and transformers
· Station batteries and chargers
· Perform troubleshooting, problem identification and provide recommendations for corrective actions and/or repairs
· Generate customer report describing the problem found and correction action taken / proposed
· Make safety a priority as per GE’s zero tolerance policy and adopt safety regulations at customer sites
Qualifications/Requirements
· Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited university or college
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical testing, maintenance and/or start-up of high voltage substations in field services or electrical utility industry ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
· Ability and willingness to work long hours and weekends, as required
· Ability and willingness to work at customer locations and travel 80% of the time, as required
· Ability and willingness to obtain / maintain a valid US / Canadian passport
· Ability and willingness to posses / maintain a valid driver's license
Desired Characteristics
· Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited university or college
· Basic understanding of one-line, three-line schematics and connection diagrams
· Strong working knowledge of transformers, motors, generators, etc.
· Knowledge of relays (GE, ABB, SEL, Siemens, etc. manufactured)
· Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) mindset / compliance
· Basic understanding of the functioning of AIS and GIS
· Working knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, IEC standards
· Self-motivated and confident with the ability to work efficiently / effectively with limited supervision
· Ability to set priorities to meet day to day short term objectives
· Provides technical guidance and/or coaches others
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Applies concept to practical business problems
· Strong customer service skills
