Role Summary/Purpose

As a member of the High Performance Computing (HPC) team, the Principal Infrastructure Architect will have primary responsibility for leading the identification, design and implementation of GE’s next generation HPC technology roadmap and plan. You will oversee multiple global initiatives related to the infrastructure aspects of HPC as well as the on-going development of new, innovative products in the HPC, Machine Learning and Simulation Based Engineering and Science disciplines.
Essential Responsibilities

In this role you will: 

·  Work to understand complex global business infrastructure requirements related to the HPCaaS product and subsequently translate those into a clear, consistent strategic technology roadmap, build consensus to your vision and recommendation, influence leadership support and funding to execute successfully. 
·  Be a technical domain expert representing the organization both internally and externally with strategic suppliers, partners, stakeholders and customers to ensure the solutions implemented meet both current and future needs of the business and the Engineering function. 
·  Drive the development of solutions which are service-oriented with reusable components that can be leveraged in different ways to meet globally diverse business requirements from a broad stakeholder community. 
·  Evolve current legacy service and solution offerings into next generation capabilities aligned to new and emerging business needs – including, but not limited to the introduction of machine learning and surrogate modeling tools and capabilities. 
·  Require deep expertise and an ability to work across multiple technical or functional domains while ensuring global consistency in the technology used to provide HPC products to GE. 
·  Lead the research and evaluation of emerging technology, industry and market trends to assist in project development, solution implementation and/or operational support activities across multiple teams or complex scenarios. 
·  Develop, implement and practice a robust, quantitative technology evaluation process. Document performance criteria and testing strategies, quantify results, trade-offs and recommendations using a data-driven approach to support conclusions. 
·  Work in partnership with the HPCaaS Principal Enterprise Architect and Principal Software Architect to ensure a cohesive wing-to-wing tech stack for the HPCaaS product portfolio. 
·  Support the adjacent development of workload management and job scheduling tools aligned to and integrated with technical focus areas such as: containerization, cloud services, machine learning, artificial intelligence and big data services. 
·  Effectively monitor and control costs related to the HPCaaS product portfolio. 
·  Balance cost, quality, performance, capability and productivity service variables effectively. 
·  Design, develop and analyze a roadmap as well as an implementation plan based on current vs. future state in a cohesive manner and in collaboration with adjacent service owners. 
·  Develop, review, analyze and maintain current reference architectures and system design documentation for related products and services. 
·  Provide leadership, technology guidance and mentorship throughout the domain.

Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or in “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). 
·  A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in High Performance Computing (HPC) and/or Simulation Based Engineering and Science (SBES). 
·  A minimum of 10 years designing, developing, building, and implementing global HPC infrastructure for compute, data management and visualization solutions aligned to complex industrial engineering and product development. 
·  Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship. 
·  Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.

Desired Characteristics

·  Demonstrated ability to design, develop and maintain creative solutions to complex software, engineering toolchain and application problems. 
·  Experience with enterprise-class compute, scalable storage (Lustre, NAS, GPFS,) network, virtualization, machine learning, surrogate modeling and cloud service technologies. 
·  Experience with High Performance Computing solutions from Cray, HPE, DDN, NetApp, Cisco, Mellanox, nvidia and VMWare as well as a demonstrated deep understand of related product roadmaps. 
·  Experience with implementing complex compute, storage and visualization solutions and workflows in Amazon’s AWS cloud framework. 
·  Experience with new and emerging infrastructure security strategies, multifactor authentication, data and network encryption technologies. 
·  Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and technical leadership skills.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and global teaming skills, executive presence. 
·  Proven ability to communicate clearly across all levels of an organization and to work effectively across cultural, geographic and business boundaries. 
·  Experience with engineering software aligned to finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics and lifing analytics or equivalent. 
·  Strong understanding of software governance and compliance/regulatory requirements. 
·  Process oriented; results, quality, cost driven. 
·  Proven experience working with and managing supplier relationships. 
·  Proven ability to develop, nurture and maintain strategic, mutually beneficial external partnerships. 
·  Active Unites States Department of Defense security clearance for access to classified information or the ability and willingness to apply for and receive clearance as necessary for job function. 
·  Six Sigma Greenbelt certified.
