Role Summary/Purpose
As a member of the Energy Consulting Power System Engineering team, the Principal Engineer, Systems Engineering and Equipment will be an active contributor to the GE Power business initiatives related to power systems engineering, equipment, and services.
Essential Responsibilities
As the Principal Engineer, Systems Engineering and Equipment you will:
· Support customers with power systems engineering expertise; including modeling, analysis, equipment design and specification, and failure mode analysis
· Support continuous development of transmission and distribution products based on evolving codes and standards through participation in industry standards groups and leading innovative approaches to power system analysis
· Perform power system load flow studies, stability analysis, fault studies, transient studies, and detailed equipment modeling using appropriate software tools
· Effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers by preparing detailed written reports or presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and customer value propositions
· Develop projects with customers; manage contracts to ensure technical, schedule and cost objectives are met; actively participate in identifying and cultivating new customers and business opportunities; lead preparation of proposals; and make customer presentations
· Lead and organize project teams, guiding the work of individual contributors ensuring high quality deliverables, budget, and on-time project metrics are met
· Enhance industry knowledge and present technical content in regional forums and conferences; serve as a thought leader in industry activities
· Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are prized
Qualifications/Requirements
· Ph.D. Degree in electrical engineering or electric power engineering
· Minimum 6 years of experience in electrical or electric power engineering
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
· Willingness to travel to support project work (up to 10%)
Desired Characteristics
· Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. ability to effectively communicate with all levels of GE and customer/plant staff)
· Experience performing steady state and dynamic analysis using large data base simulation tools like PSLF or PSS/E
· Experience with the use and application of common programming languages (e.g. Python, FORTRAN, MATLAB)
· Demonstrated application of complex mathematics and engineering to real-world electric power system problems
· Experience performing time-domain and transient analysis using simulation tools like ATP/EMTP, PSCAD/EMTDC, ASPEN
· Industry reputation, prior IEEE/CIGRE published articles related to practical power systems engineering topics, participation in industry standards working groups
· Advanced experience with dynamic and time-domain simulation tools (e.g. FORTRAN programming of user-written “black box” models in PSCAD, PSLF, or PSS/E, or use of MATLAB or Python scripting to automate multiple iterative approaches to simulation)
· Demonstrated experience in technical performance analysis of electric power systems
