Role Summary/Purpose

The Principal Engineer is an expert in functional safety of large industrial electro-mechanical machinery. In this capacity, you will be responsible for driving the maintenance and application of formal functional safety methods to new and existing onshore wind turbines.

Essential Responsibilities

As the Principal Engineer – Functional Safety, you will:

·  Manage and maintain the implementation of IEC 62061 “Safety of Machinery – Functional Safety of Safety-Related Electrical, Electronic and Programmable electronic control systems” or an equivalent standard for the development of onshore wind turbine designs
·  Manage and maintain design requirements and specifics related to hazard identification, risk analysis, failure rate target setting, identification of Safety-Related Control Functions, and setting of SIL levels
·  Assess the effects of functional safety requirements on turbine design load cases, turbine operability, turbine control hardware, and turbine control software and driving relevant changes into these areas
·  Manage and maintain a formal Functional Safety Design Process for Onshore Wind
·  Flow down requirements and partner with Engineering teams to apply the Functional Safety Design Process and Turbine Saving Principles
·  Drive functional safety requirements and reviews for new and existing units
·  Assist root cause analysis for safety related concerns by working with cross-functional teams representing Fleet Support Engineering, Design Engineering, Regional Fleet Reliability Operations (FRO), EHS, Legal, Supplier Quality, Sourcing, and Chief Engineers Office
·  Lead integration of overall safety system with Segment System Engineers to drive consistent safety concepts and uniform design across segment products
·  Collaborate with Onshore Wind Segment Engineering Teams on the design and implementation of safety systems
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in Engineering or related discipline or equivalent knowledge / experience
·  Significant relevant engineering experience
·  Some engineering experience in the application of functional safety design standards and methodologies to large electro-mechanical systems

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

·  EU Work Permit if hired in Spain

·  Advanced degree from an accredited university or college in an Engineering or related discipline or equivalent knowledge / experience
·  Significant Wind industry experience
·  Completed Functional Safety training, courses, diploma, degree course module or similar
·  Strong communication skills and able to clearly communicate complex concepts or systems to non-experts
·  Fluency in English
