Role Summary/Purpose

In 2006, GE established a Global Patent Operation (GPO) which is headquartered in Norwalk, CT. The GPO focuses on developing and managing high quality global patent assets for GE's worldwide businesses. The GPO has openings for Patent Fellows starting in August/September 2017 Patent Fellow positions are one-year (1-year) assignments providing opportunities for novice patent attorneys to gain patent prosecution experience while observing how businesses develop and manage their patent assets.

Essential Responsibilities

This is a paid internship position located in Fairfield, CT .

·  The Patent Fellows will work with GPO attorneys and IP paraprofessionals on a variety of patent-related assignments; typical assignments include:
·  Analyzing US Office Actions and Drafting amendments and responses thereto
·  Analyzing Non-US Office Actions and Preparing response instructions to local counsel
·  Studying search reports issued in PCT and European patent applications, and preparing comments/recommendations to GPO attorneys in view thereof
·  Finalizing and formatting patent applications for US Paris Convention and PCT National Stage application filings
·  Preparing voluntary claim amendments for Non-US applications
·  Reviewing/Editing non-disclosure agreements
·  Researching areas of IP law as needed
·  Drafting one or more provisional or non-provisional patent applications (as required)
·  Supporting GPO attorneys and IP paraprofessionals on special projects that may arise.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.

Desired Characteristics

·  Outstanding technical and writing skills;
·  strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively and concisely and work with attorneys, inventors and all levels of GE management;
·  some knowledge of laws, regulations, practices and procedures relating to the procurement of patents in the U.S. and foreign countries.

Prior patent prosecution experience is a plus.

·  BS in science or engineering
·  JD from an accredited law school (JD required by start date)
·  Ability to work 40 hours per week on site in Norwalk, CT
·  Registration to Practice before the USPTO is a plus, but not required
