Role Summary/Purpose

The Mechanical Design - Design Engineer will contribute to the team responsible for BWR reactor internals hardware design and associated install tooling design/qualification in support of GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s Services Business along with Mechanical Equipment Design for new opportunities.

Essential Responsibilities

As the Mechanical Design - Design Engineer you will:

·  Provide assessments of reactor internal components as-inspected conditions, as well as, innovative and practical repair and replacement solutions that ensure high quality deliverables in accordance with customer requirements, business procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines.
·  Provide support for tooling design/qualification and equipment design support for new applications.
·  Interface with GEH Service Business PMs and field teams, equipment manufacturers and within GEH engineering.
·  Demonstrate accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks.
·  Take personal responsibility for understanding impact of design and associated risk.
·  Consider customer needs and maintains open communication with interfacing engineers and project stakeholders.  
·  Be responsible for supporting work on projects with low to moderate complexity.
·  Execute the analysis, design, test, and/or integration required to define and support assignments related to operating plant reactor vessels and reactor internal components that meet business standards and program/product requirements
·  Perform fundamental engineering hand calculations and modeling
·  Develop design of mechanical components and equipment
·  Maintain focus to assessing causality and risk.
·  Prepare and present technical data to internal customers
·  Lead / facilitate discussion and information exchange to promote open dialogue including working effectively in a matrixed team environment
·  Ensure that product designs meet all intended application and modification design requirements by working with experts in other functional teams
·  Evaluate reactor internals IVVI (In Vessel Visual Inspection) findings and provide written functionality assessments in accordance with GEH experience and BWRVIP guidance.
·  Prepare invention disclosures to protect the technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business
·  Participate and lead teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor's Degree of Science in Mechanical Engineering or other closely related field
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT:

·  Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international plant sites
Desired Characteristics

·  Experience analyzing and solving moderately complex design problems
·  Strong oral and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to write organized engineering documents
·  Strong interpersonal and proven leadership skills
·  Knowledge of the ASME/AWS codes
·  Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD design
·  Proficiency with ANSYS FEA analysis
·  Experience in the BWR or PWR industry
·  Six Sigma Green Belt Certification (internal GE candidate)
