Role Summary/Purpose

The GE Puridify team is developing nanofibre purification technologies to increase the productivity of bioprocessing. This is a unique opportunity to become part of a recently acquired innovative and dynamic team and be integral to the shaping of a new technology for wide industrial applications. The site has both R&D and manufacturing capabilities and the role will be involved in both aspects of this.
Essential Responsibilities

The team is based at the Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst Incubator which is a 20 minute train journey from Central London and 40 minutes from Cambridge. You will report into Puridify Section Manager and engage regularly with Business Leaders.

The ideal candidate would be a graduate or someone with industry experience.  As this role will work on groundbreaking technology using new equipment full trainingwill be given.

The post holder will be responsible for the research and development of new industrial nanofiber production methods using large scale electrospinning equipment and large scale post processing equipment. They should have strong ability to understand how fabrication process parameters can impact the resulting product and how this ultimately impacts the functional performance of this product in its final application.

Key responsibilities/essential functions include:

·  Diligent experimental planning, execution and delivery will be required across 3 core applications:

·  Raw material preparations – polymer solvents
·  Fabrication processes – Nanofibre production by electrospinning

·  Post processing of membranes produced
·  Subsequent analytical characterisation of the materials

·  Designing and conducting key laboratory testing work for critical support activities to drive greater application knowledge around the materials in areas such as Flux testing, porometry, SEM, other applied analytics.

·  Supporting product validation, verification, testing and trouble-shooting activities with manufacturing personnel.

Qualifications/Requirements

·  Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Chemical or Polymer Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or similar technical background and /or equivalent experience

·  A diligent and keen experimentalist

·  Competent and confident in operating industrial equipment

·  A practical approach to problem solving

·  Clear understanding of Statistical Data Analysis

·  Effectively communicate and justify experimental plans and results

·  Ability to work autonomously and effectively under broad directives, independently and as a team. Desired Characteristics

·  An understanding of filtration or membrane separations materials is advantageous
