Role Summary/Purpose
The Power Electronics Controls Lead Engineer will provide Control Engineering domain expertise in a multi-disciplinary engineering development team that includes system & control engineering, application software engineering, simulation, hardware & mechanical design, integration & test functions .
Essential Responsibilities
As the Lead Engineer - Power Electronics Controls, you will:
· Design, implement, and test new power electronic control software to meet documented requirements for power conversion products (Wind, Solar, Drives, etc.)
· Establish system & sub-system level control requirements from functional specifications and application needs
· Develop new products using simulation, modeling and statistical design methods
· Design power electronics control software to meet performance, reliability and cost targets
· Implement rapid-prototypes using auto-code generation tools (Matlab / Simulink)
· Implement product design using Object Oriented Programming techniques in C/C++ integrated development environment
· Develop and execute system and subsystem validation test plans
· Develop subsystem models to support concept validation studies and DFSS activities
· Participate in FMEA, risk assessment and RCA activities
· Participate in writing product documentation, technical reports, developing software cost and schedule estimates, and authoring software development and test plans
Qualifications/Requirements
· Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or related Engineering field
· Minimum of 3 years of experience developing controls for power conversion products including a minimum 1 year experience in developing embedded control applications using C/C++ and real-time operating systems (e.g., QNX)
Desired Characteristics
· Power Electronics or AC Systems Design
· Experience with Software Structuring and Design documentation
· Educational background in Control Theory and Power System Stability Analysis
· Experience with modern control techniques, software languages and development & analysis tools for real-time controls
· Demonstrated ability to meet goals and objectives
· Proven interpersonal and leadership skills
· Advanced Technology Degree
· Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g. Simplorer, SABER, Matlab / Simulink)
· Familiarity with electric machine modeling and control
· Working knowledge of electric motor drives or photovoltaic system technologies
· Working knowledge of GE manufactured power electronics and control systems
· MBB / BB, DFSS certified (GE employees only)
