Role Summary/Purpose
As a member of this world class team, the Lead Controls Engineer will lead and execute the protection and control aspects of Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) projects. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, testing, start-up and commissioning of the protection and control aspects of HV series capacitors and MV synchronous condensers: http://www.gegridsolutions.com/FACTS.htm
Essential Responsibilities
As the Lead Controls Engineer, you will:
· Lead the development of custom protection and control systems, including specifications, layouts, schematics, logic diagrams, wiring, grounding, and other custom control hardware required for custom Flexible AC Transmission Systems
· Compose protection and control equipment specifications, issue material purchase request forms, and evaluate vendor quotations for FACTS equipment including protection and control systems
· Be the contact liaison for technical issues for the customer and project manager
· Develop and execute start-up, testing and commissioning plans
· Coordinate with sourcing and project team members on technical matters to meet project specifications, cost control and schedule objectives
· Interface with internal and external team members such as principal engineers, control engineers, civil engineers, electrical designers, project managers, engineering leaders and support organizations
· Lead the development of the controls scope for proposals, including writing and/or reviewing technical specifications, estimating design man-hours and materials, supporting sourcing for vendor quotations, directing designers and draftsmen on drawing requirements, and the development of clarifications and exceptions as well as technical responses
· Initiate and execute cost reduction programs that vary in scope and may include low cost vendor selection, design improvements, process improvements, automation, and new product introduction
· Perform RCA's (root cause analysis) and execute corrective actions
· Support project quality procedures and initiatives including aspects of ISO9001
Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics
· Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 2 years of engineering experience)
· Experience in automation controller programming, Rx3i and/or MkVIe are strong pluses
· Experience in installation, field testing, and commissioning of utility protection equipment, and/or large rotating equipment controls
· Knowledge of microprocessor control hardware, firmware, architecture
· Demonstrated electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capability
· Superior communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
· Demonstrated accountability in delivering high quality product on time and under budget
· Ability to develop and implement standards and structured programs
· Knowledge of and experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards and codes, and
· ability to engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is provided
· Excellent personal computer skills, including proficiency with Excel and Word. AutoCAD, and/or Microstation are pluses
