Role Summary/Purpose

The Laboratory Technician will work with Baker Hughes a GE Company (BHGE) Research Engineers and Oil and Gas Industry research partners to bring innovative solutions to life in the lab as well as the field. This position will also be in support of the laboratory operations, and include sustaining equipment and support of general lab tasks.
Essential Responsibilities

In most cases you will be assembling, installing, commissioning, operating, and gathering data on tests for researchers. These tests will be unique experiments that require a high level of documentation and attention to detail.
These tests will be in support of developing technologies and result in products that will contribute both to the GE Customer’s efficiency and performance but also BHGE profitability.

This position is part of the EIC Laboratory Technical staff, which is an elite group of technology operations professionals. They report to the Laboratory Manager and are held to a high standard of operations, safety, and teamwork excellence. This position will be responsible for operating in, and maintenance of a world-class research laboratory and ensuring that testing occurs in a safe and professional manner.

This position will also be responsible for the development and maintenance of tests, test systems, and laboratory processes . This position can involve some regional, national and international travel.

In the role of Laboratory Technician, you will:

·  Work with Engineers and researchers to maintain the lab spaces, and work to maintain and improve the equipment and procedures for operation

·  Work independently or with a team to plan and execute tests and ensure that all testing level documentation is accurately maintained

·  Create solutions to complex technical problems

·  Support project managers in the development of safety protocols related to specific projects / experiments

·  Own safety responsibilities for experiments / projects built, operated and executed

·  Conduct tests and collect data according to written procedures

·  Ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated according to lab procedures

·  Prepare and conduct experiments

·  Create prototypes of equipment using various assembly methods and technologies

·  Be responsible for moving and installing large, heavy equipment safely

·  Work directly with customers, and researchers to bring prototype equipment online
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university (OR High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution with a minimum 4 years of experience in a hands on role doing mechanical or electrical work)

·  Minimum 2 years of experience in a hands on role doing mechanical or electrical work

Eligibility Requirements:

·  Work overtime, weekends and holidays, as required

·  This is a hands-on position and the Laboratory technician must possess adequate strength and manual dexterity to work with various tools and equipment

·  Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

·  Work in confined spaces, at heights and demanding locations
Desired Characteristics

·  Demonstrated experience working with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) requirements

·  Understanding of electrical circuits, LOTO, and arc flash

·  Demonstrated chemical safe handling experience

·  Strong written and verbal communication skills

·  Research & Development Experience

·  Organized and detail oriented

·  Able to manage multiple projects and resources to drive projects to completion

·  Prior experience working independently and as part of a team

·  Knowledge of pressure, flow, and temperature carrying devices

·  Experience with pressure vessels, and high temperature testing

·  Experience with electrical equipment, and power systems testing

·  Experience with analytical equipment

·  Experience with basic machining and welding

·  Experience with powered industrial vehicles, overhead cranes, and non-standard equipment lifts

·  Experience with mechanical assembly and modification
