Role Summary/Purpose

The Industrial Designer will be responsible for applying creativity and design skills into all stages of industrial design and development, and working with project teams to plan and conduct user research to obtain user feedback, within our R&D team at GE Life Sciences. This role will be a value member of the Cell & Gene Therapy organization.
Essential Responsibilities

·  Apply your creativity and design skills to all stages of industrial design and development from conceptualization to final production

·  Work with project teams to plan and conduct user research to uncover new opportunities, evaluate designs and develop user experience and design recommendations

·  Effectively communicate your unique and innovative ideas to project teams through sketches, models, and presentation tools

·  Develop a strong understanding of the healthcare and life sciences markets, monitor design and technology trends while staying informed re the competition

·  Clearly communicate function and design intent to engineering and manufacturing

·  Review and evaluate designs for compliance with GE Healthcare industrial design guidelines and standards; provide ongoing feedback to improve product quality and user experience

·  Collaborate with global design and user experience teams working across Life Sciences
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Design or equivalent knowledge or experience

·  Strong and relevant design experience; healthcare experience is a plus.

·  An incurable curiosity relating to all things design and user experience

·  Good understanding and experience in methodologies for design expression and validation, including hand sketching, and physically building models and mockups out of everything from clay, foam, and cardboard, to wood, metal, and 3D printing

·  Ability to confidently present your designs to internal teams and customers

·  Excellent analytical, problem-solving and time management skills

·  Excellent skills in 2-D and 3-D software packages for product design, including Adobe Creative Suite & Rhino, experience with SolidWorks and/or Pro-E is a plus

·  Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·  Expertise in human-centered design and user research methodologies
