Role Summary/Purpose

Electrical Engineer position is located in the Westborough R&D Life Cycle Engineering group within the Biotechnology business area in GE Healthcare Life Sciences.
The focus of the Life Cycle Engineering group is to provide sustaining engineering support for hardware and single-use fluid pathway assemblies for upstream and downstream processing of biologics based on direct customer input.
Essential Responsibilities

Electrical Engineer, PLC Automation and Hardware Product Care

This position requires the application of design, engineering, root cause analysis investigation, product testing, data analysis and report writing to resolve and improve product design, process and quality issues.

• As an Electrical Engineer you will be responsible for system design as well as sustaining engineering activities and design changes on existing product.
• Design tasks include system level architecture, control panel design (Schematics, PLC firmware development), EMI/EMC design and mitigation, electronic component selection.
• Involve in all phases of new product development, including concept, architecture, documentation, design, prototype, test, supplier interfaces, manufacturing introduction and service support.
• Strong understanding of hardware engineering including knowledge of creating designs and implementation in hardware.
• Interface directly with customers and internal groups to resolve customer complaint investigations, drive Root Cause Analysis and implement quality and design related improvements.
• Analyzing and solving quality issues, initiating sample build and lab testing, evaluating test samples, introduction and follow up of design changes in manufacturing.
• Run small project with cross-functional teams, create WBS and Gannt chart schedules.
• Verify product performance against design inputs. Write verification protocols, perform testing, analyze and interpret test data, and write and present verification reports.
• Assists in designing products to meet their intended use. Ensure performance of engineering analyses to aid in making design decisions.
• Leads hardware design of components, assemblies, packaging, tooling and fixtures; analyze and validate tolerances, performance, cost and manufacturability.
• Creates and maintains; schematics, assembly drawings and associated Bill-of-Materials, manufacturing documents, including initial assembly instructions, inspection specifications, and packaging instructions.
• Identify design requirements, perform risk assessments, identify required resources, estimate time and budget, and interface with peers, managers, suppliers and customers.
• Release products through the ECR/ECO process.
• Maintain safe work area.
Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in either; Electrical Engineering or Computer Science Engineering.
• 2-6 years of relevant industrial design experience in either; Bio-Processing, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, medical device development or a related field.
• Ability to be responsive to customer’s requests; lead customer complaint investigations, complete root cause analysis and implement risk management methodologies.
• An understanding of hardware engineering including knowledge of creating designs and implementation in hardware.
• Proficient in electrical CAD tools, develop schematics, wiring diagrams, wiring connection specifications and other related documents for manufacturing.
• Experience in designing products complying with international regulatory compliance including; RoHS, IPC, IEC.
• Experience with engineering change orders and releasing new designs via a data management system, and handling obsolescence issues as they come up. Expertise in electrical CAD tools, develop schematics, wiring diagrams, wiring connection specifications and other related documents for manufacturing.
• Experience in PLC programming.
• Working Knowledge of regulatory standards; UL/CE/IEC.
• Knowledge of Thermal aspects of electrical system design.
• Knowledge on P&ID standards, be able to read, develop or modify P&ID for the process.
• Awareness of GMP and governmental regulations related to drug manufacturing. sufficient to appreciate the need for documentation accuracy
• Ability to read and interpret professional journals and technical procedures.
• Ability to write reports; communicate test analysis and results.
• Strong communication and technical writing skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft tools
Desired Characteristics

Master’s Degree in either; Electrical Engineering or Computer Science Engineering.
• Project Management Professional (PMI/PMP) Certification.
• Knowledge of bio-compatible material selection for sterile single-use application in bio-processing and/or medical device applications.
• Experience in leading projects/activities to meet customer requirements.
• Six Sigma Certification (Green Belt, Black Belt).
