The Role – EID Intern

As a EID System Engineering Intern, you will be working with the team of system engineers to support or independently interpret (when suitable) the customer’s technical enquiry and to design the most cost effective overall solution for an HVDC installation utilizing the PES power electronic solutions.  You will be contributing to total cost reduction and the specification of the main (high-value) items of bought-out equipment.  The successful candidate will be involved in the development and industrialisation of solutions tools and processes.

The Person

  • The candidate will have completed 2 years of degree level in a related science such as Electrical Power Systems and Power Electronics subjects or equivalent knowledge or experience. However, this is not as important as a proven track record and evidence that you have the experience and abilities to perform the role.
  • Candidate should show familiarity with concepts of power electronics and passive components such as inductors and capacitors. They should also demonstrate interest in power electronics and willingness to learn more.

Skills and Experience:

  • On track to achieve 2:1 at the end of the University degree in Power Systems or equivalent knowledge or experience


  • Electrical power systems modelling and analysis
  • Insulation co-ordination
  • High voltage equipment specification, design and testing
  • Reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) assessment and management
  • Technical domain tools
  • Audible noise assessment and mitigation
  • HVDC domain knowledge: HVDC valves and their control systems
  • Understanding of multi-modular converters
  • High Voltage engineering
  • Willingness to develop ability in product design, validation and industrialisation

  • Self-motivating, proactive and results driven approach
  • Problem-solving and root cause identification skills
  • Able to work to deadlines with good quality
  • Proficient in the English language, written and verbal. Other languages are bonus
