Role Summary/Purpose

This role will work with Engineers, Business Unit Leaders, etc. to understand requests and support production needs. They will use logic and troubleshooting to identify strengths and weaknesses of solutions and determine equipment and procedures needed to complete jobs properly. Cutter Grinders must understand the implications of information for current and future problem solving and decision making. This role will select and use training methods and procedures appropriate for the situation.
Essential Responsibilities

In addition, this position will:
• Work within a teaming environment and pass off work and information to other shifts.
• Monitor machine operations to determine whether adjustments are necessary and stop machines if problems occur.
• Dress grinding wheels, according to geometric specifications.
• Inspect and measure work pieces to ensure that dimensional specifications are meet.
• Set up and operate grinding machines to grind carbide work pieces such drills, reamers, milling cutters, and inserts.
• Inspect, package, identify and seal the finished or refurbished tool as specified. If defective product is produced the Cutter Grinder will
• Contain defective product, determine root cause and make corrections as needed.
• Perform basic maintenance, such as cleaning and monitoring lubrication, and coolant levels.
• Calculate numbers, widths, and angles of cutting tools.
• Conduct tests and inspections of tooling, services or processes to evaluate performance and quality.
• Monitor gauges and indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
• Read and understand process operation sheets, tooling sheets tech plans and associated documents.
• Complete applicable special processes and operator certification requirements.
• Understand part process flow (incoming/outgoing).
• Housekeeping requirements (general regs and team regs).
• Openness to learn change.
• Knowledge of safety procedures.
• Continual Improvement of quality and key Metrics.
Qualifications/Requirements

• High School Diploma / GED and Associates degree in machining or 1 year of work experience on manual or CNC machines with a preference cutter grind experience.
Desired Characteristics

• Proficient in using hand tools to such as diamond files etc.to blend geometries or create edge preparation.
• Working knowledge of micrometers, scales, gauges, optical comparators to inspect work.
• Extensive knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques to maximize the effective manufacture and distribution of cutting tools.
• Strong good math skills and the ability to read blueprints.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of excel and other Window based programs.
• Maintain positive attitude / Teamwork.
• Willing to work overtime as needed.
