Role Summary/Purpose

The Software Engineer Application Engineering (f/m) will be a business process oriented element of a self-organizing SCRUM team that develops multiple process automation and data analysis applications for several internal customers from GE Renewable Energy engineering teams. The applications automate essential parts of the new wind turbine design process, and site-specific analysis during the inquiry-to-order phase.
Essential Responsibilities

As an integral part of GE, this critical role in the CTO Loads & Controls organization helps us to add value to wind turbine solutions for the customer by providing the application engineering team with software tools encompassing the latest understanding of wind resource assessment, mechanical loads analysis, and wind turbine operation. 

In this role, you will:

·  Develop solutions to increase customer value and enable digital wind farm optimization
·  Gather requirements, analyze, challenge, and propose novel solutions for the current application engineering processes from raw measurement to site specific component checks and report generation
·  Within a SCRUM team, work independently on software development and automation tasks with a strong focus on quality and software design
·  Independently develop automated software tests and perform validation testing
·  Write user and developer documentation
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, mechanical engineering, mathematics, or comparable education from an accredited college or university
·  Proven project experience in developing scientific/engineering applications, in building responsive, interactive frontend applications, or in data science, using AGILE processes.
·  Strong proficiency in English, with multi-lingual capacity
Desired Characteristics

·  Comfortable with version control (Git, GitHub), continuous integration and deployment (e.g. TeamCity, Jenkins), software build tools (e.g. Maven, Gradle, NPM, Webpack), and common software design patterns
·  Experience with Java, C++; knowledge of Java frameworks and libraries
·  Experience with cloud services such as AWS, Azure or GCE
·  Familiarity with mechanical load analysis or wind resource assessment
·  Experience in statistics, machine learning, surrogate modelling, design of experiment, optimization (Genetic algorithm, multi-objective, gradient-based) or uncertainty quantification
·  Ability and willingness to accept challenges outside of technical expertise / comfort zone, and acquire the required skills on the job as needed
