Role Summary/Purpose

As a member of the Energy Consulting Power System Engineering team, the successful candidate will be an active contributor to the GE Power business initiatives related to power systems engineering, equipment, and services.

Essential Responsibilities

As the Application Engineer, you will:

·  Support customers with power systems engineering expertise, including: modeling, analysis, equipment design and specification, and failure mode analysis
·  Support continuous development of transmission and distribution products based on evolving codes and standards through participation in industry standards groups and leading innovative approaches to power system analysis
·  Perform power system load flow studies, stability analysis, fault studies, and detailed equipment modeling using appropriate software tools
·  Effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers by preparing detailed written reports or presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and customer value propositions
·  Enhance industry knowledge and present technical content in regional forums and conferences
·  Serve as a thought leader in industry activities
·  Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are prized
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Master’s Degree in electrical engineering or electric power engineering from an accredited university or college (OR Master’s Degree in physical sciences or applied mathematics from an accredited university or college with a minimum of 2 years of relevant electric power industry experience) ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

·  Ability and willingness to travel to support project work 10% of the time

·  Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required; we will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening
Desired Characteristics

·  PhD in electrical engineering, electric power engineering, or related field of study from an accredited university or college 
·  Experience performing time-domain and transient analysis using simulation tools like ATP / EMTP, PSCAD / EMTDC, ASPEN
·  Industry reputation, prior IEEE / CIGRE published articles related to practical power systems engineering topics, participation in industry standards working groups
·  Advanced experience with dynamic and time-domain simulation tools (e.g., FORTRAN programming of user-written “black box” models in PSCAD, PSLF, or PSS / E, or use of MATLAB or Python scripting to automate multiple iterative approaches to simulation)
·  Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g., ability to effectively communicate with all levels of GE and customer / plant staff)
·  Demonstrated application of complex mathematics and engineering to real-world electric power system problems
·  Experience performing steady state and dynamic analysis using large data base simulation tools like PSLF and PSS / E
·  Experience with the use and application of common programming languages (e.g., Python, FORTRAN, MATLAB)
