Role Summary/Purpose

Energy Consulting, a part of GE Energy Connections, offers global clients a wide range of solutions across a spectrum of power generation, delivery and utilization. Our Power Systems Strategy team offers detailed engineering and economic analyses focused on the financial and physical operation of electric power systems. This includes generation and grid planning, system optimization, asset valuation, and energy policy implications.

Essential Responsibilities

As a member of the GE Energy Consulting - Power Systems Strategy team, the Application Engineer will support external consulting and software development services related to system reliability studies utilizing the GE Multi-Area Reliability Simulation (MARS) software.

As the Application Engineer, you will:

·  Provide internal and external consulting services related to grid reliability analysis, loss-of-load expectation (LOLE), effective load carry capacity (ELCC), and capacity market design  
·  Develop, maintain, and apply detailed market simulation models for the energy industry for customer planning and investment objectives, evaluating impacts of structural changes in electricity markets, and identifying growth opportunities for GE
·  Effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers by preparing written detailed and summary reports and making presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and customer value propositions
·  Monitor power markets for rule changes that may affect generation and transmission asset values and advise clients on expected impacts of those rules
·  Collaborate cross-functionally between the Power Economics and Software teams to define and guide the MARS software development plan to incorporate new features and expand offerings
·  Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are essential

Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Economics, Computer Science or other quantitative degree
·  Minimum of 2 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: electric power system modeling, energy market design, operations or policy, generation / transmission planning, wholesale power trading, or energy market consulting

Desired Characteristics

·  Experience with production cost models (MAPS, PLEXOS, GridView, PROMOD), reliability models (MARS), or other power system simulation tools (PSLF, PSS/E)
·  MBA or Master’s / PhD degree in engineering, economics or computer science 
·  Industry reputation, published articles and presentations in industry forums (IEEE, CIGRE, etc.) and participation in industry standards working groups

·  Programming experience (Python, MATLAB, VBA, etc.) 
·  Knowledge of energy industry and power markets
·  Proficient in collecting, querying, and analyzing complex data, and drawing insightful conclusions
·  Proficient with Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint
·  Strong technical writing, interpersonal communication, and presentation skills
