Job Description Summary
The Advanced Lead Engineer within our Advanced Measurement Technologies research and development team will be responsible for research, designing, developing, and deploying novel optical measurement systems for GE’s future-of-flight tests. You will be working hands-on in a collaborative team to leverage your optical, mechanical, and embedded electronic system design expertise to integrate measurement systems into next-generation engines. You will be working closely with engineers, interns, and laboratory personnel to ensure on-time customer delivery of projects. You will also lead the creation and execution of roadmaps and design practices for optical measurement technology maturation as you help to develop the future of engine and component testing.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
· Execute the optical, mechanical, embedded electronic design, analysis, and evaluation of optical measurement systems from conception to deployment for Aerospace engines and aircrafts.
· Support measurement system integration to engine/rig and support testing and data post-processing.
· Adhere to business standards, practices, procedures, & product requirements.
· Leverage prior optical, electrical/electronic, and mechanical design experience and broaden knowledge of one's own technical discipline to meet product deliverables within schedule & budget constraints.
· Identify and leverage contract manufacturing for appropriately identified sub-system/sub-component for full system integration.
· Demonstrate systems thinking mentality to understand how work of one's team integrates with others to achieve product requirements.
· Exhibit autonomy to make decisions within a defined requirements framework while resolving design challenges in situations which require technical knowledge & judgment.
· Review designs and consult with senior technical leaders for evaluation of work.
· Develop strong internal and external customer relationships by serving as an interface point within GE Aerospace.
Required Qualifications
· Master’s or advanced degree in Electrical engineering, Optics or Physics from an accredited university.
· 3+ years of experience in optical measurements, embedded electronics, optical system design prototyping, and opto-mechanics.
Desired Characteristics
· 3 years’ experience in optical/opto-mechanical design engineering position.
· 3 years’ experience in a rugged optical measurement system and embedded electronics design position.
· Experience with optical tools such as Zemax, finite element analysis software such as ANSYS and 3D modelling software such as NX Unigraphics.
· Hands-On Experience with opto-mechanical devices and breadboarding.
· Experience with optical based measurements in aerospace applications (Turbines, combustors etc.) or similar harsh environments.
· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including presentation of technical information.
· Demonstrated ability to analyze & solve technical design challenges with sound documentation, planning, & program management skills.
· Highly motivated and passionate.
· Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
