The opportunity
Within Ernst & Young's renowned National Tax practice, the Tax Credit Investment Advisory Services (TCIAS) is part of the firm’s Location Investment, Credits & Incentives services group; we help clients to identify and analyze the issues surrounding Location Investments worldwide, and the use of business incentives to improve the return on investment of business strategies.
 
This position would work with clients by providing various services within the TCIAS group.  The team focuses on transactions involving various tax credit investments; which include: Renewable Energy Tax Credits (PTC and ITC), Affordable Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit (HRTC), New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC), and State tax credits. Along with transaction support the team works with internal and external clients to help ensure that the tax credit transactions get reported appropriately on tax returns and on financial statements.  Additionally the team is leading the firm’s efforts around Opportunity Zones, a new section of the tax code as part of TCJA.

TCIAS also monitors ongoing developments related to Federal and sustainability-related incentives, and helps to develop new service offerings for the US. We are also responsible for providing thought leadership including educational materials for clients, presentations, and articles for publication in trade and tax journals.
 
Your key responsibilities
You’ll contribute to client satisfaction by providing timely and effective responses to client needs and concerns, participate in client meetings, and work within a team environment to deliver fully integrated services to clients through the following:
·  Demonstrate an understanding of basic tax credit transaction concepts and actively pursue
increased tax knowledge through client assignments and current tax developments
·  Be able to effectively apply specific income tax laws to client situations
·  Develop and deliver quality and timely services and work products.
·  Research complex tax issues and develop practical and effective tax approaches.
 
Skills and attributes for success
·  Demonstrate an understanding of tax credits, particularly with regard to modelling low-income housing tax credit and historic rehabilitation tax credit transactions
·  Experience reading and analyzing market studies, operating expenses, development and operating pro forma, benefits schedules, tax opinions, environmental reports, construction cost reviews and partnership agreements
·  Collaborate in writing reports to corporate clients in a clear and professional manner
·  Prepare quality, practical approaches to the client's tax situation and arrive at appropriate conclusions
·  Challenge traditional procedures and attempt to find new, more effective approaches

To qualify for the role you must have
·  A bachelor's degree in a related field
·  CPA or JD (or the ability to obtain this credential within 1 year of employment)
·  5 or more years’ experience with financial modelling, real estate underwriting, analyzing market trends, partnership agreements, construction cost reviews & environmental reports
·  5 or more years’ experience with Renewable Energy Tax Credits (PTC and ITC), Affordable Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit (HRTC), New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC), and/or  State tax credits
·  Strong MS Excel skills and proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint
·  Candidates must also be willing and able to travel, as necessary
 
Ideally, you’ll also have
·  Exceptional writing ability, organizational and multitasking skills
