The opportunity

As a Tax Services Staff or Senior, you will be a part of our Quantitative Services (QS) Practice.  Our Quantitative Services (QS) team specializes in tax credits for Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED).  You will be part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary group of tax, audit and science & technology professionals who work with companies of all sizes in many different industries, helping them maximize their tax credits and achieve their business objectives. 

As a team member you will work with a variety of clients at the forefront of technology, from entrepreneurs to public corporations, to evaluate and prepare their SR&ED claims. This involves meeting with CTOs, Chief Architects, and Software Developers to assess the client's eligibility to receive funding, establishing how much they can claim, and writing technical project descriptions that detail the innovation and development activities for each project. You will discuss new prototypes, innovative software architectures, improved algorithms, and new frameworks. Your key responsibilities

As a Tax Staff or Senior, you will be part of a team responsible for assessing projects in client firms, to determine whether they qualify for tax credits or other incentives under federal and provincial Business Tax Incentives programs.
·  Meet with clients and leverage your broad knowledge of current technologies to identify opportunities for claiming SR&ED in fields such as software development, cyber security, wireless networks, data analytics, defense, robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
·  Prepare and review detailed project descriptions for client R&D activities.
·  Assist and lead reviews with the Canada Revenue Agency.
·  Manage client expectations and strict deadlines.

 

Skills and attributes for success
·  preparing Tax Incentive related claims, including costing summaries, linking to supporting documentation
·  collecting appropriate documentation for input to reports
·  working with a technical specialist in the preparation of the science portion and the submission of the tax claim
·  assisting in the defense of claims with tax authorities
·  conducting follow-ups with clients to validate information
·  training client staff through presentations, seminars and coaching

 

To qualify for the role you must have
·  Strong skills in Excel 
·  Bachelors or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
·  Two years’ experience in a similar position would be considered an asset
·  Strong understanding of web technologies, cloud computing, programming languages, and telecommunication technologies.
·  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including ability to work in teams 
·  Good interviewing skills, with the ability to probe for information 
·  Organizational skills, analytical ability and detail focused
