Job description

Tax touches every aspect of our lives and is one of the largest items of expense any organisation or individual has to consider. On top of that, current issues such as the reform of international taxation, tax transparency, and the way in which we and our clients are using disruptive technology mean that there has never been a more exciting time to start a career in Tax.

Our tax professionals help clients in the UK and overseas meet complex demands for tax reporting, compliance, planning and tax controversy; they look to us to help create value and achieve sustainable outcomes. A career in tax will give you the opportunity to work with clients ranging from high net worth individuals to major high street banks; from disruptor start-ups to iconic worldwide organisations. You’ll acquire broad, deep, tax and business skills to advance your career.

By joining Tax, you can specialise across one of the following areas:

Direct Tax UK & Ireland

We help clients fulfil their tax obligations, taking into account the prospect of change. We work with organisations and individuals to structure transactions and operations in a tax-effective manner, mitigate tax risk and comply effectively with tax laws. From day one you can be working on projects varying from tax compliance to advising on the tax-structuring and transfer-pricing implications of UK and international operations.

Indirect Tax UK & Ireland

You’ll work with a wide diversity of businesses and during your training contract you will be given the opportunity to advise on many aspects of indirect taxation. You'll be talking directly with clients and developing both your client relationship and tax technical skills in relation to taxes on consumption, manufacture and trade: mainly VAT, but also customs duties, excise duties, Insurance Premium Tax, Air Passenger Duty and a range of environmental taxes. You'll also be dealing with HM Revenue & Customs, other government departments and the EU Commission on behalf of our clients.

Direct Tax Financial Services

You’ll help our clients negotiate all stages in their commercial lifecycle. From advising start-up Asset Managers on the most efficient way to structure their business from a tax perspective, producing a technical paper covering various jurisdictions on the implications of a high profile banking transaction or merger, through to working with clients to develop a sustainable model to meet the many tax reporting and compliance obligations resulting from operating in the contemporary business environment; there is a huge range of work for our people to be involved in, and areas of work to suit all types of individual and skillset. You’ll focus on three key sectors: Banking & Capital markets, Wealth & Asset Management, and Insurance.

Indirect Tax Financial Services

You’ll work with a wide diversity of businesses and during your training contract you will be given the opportunity to advise on many aspects of how indirect taxation impacts organisations. You'll be talking directly with clients and developing both your client relationship and tax technical skills in relation to taxes on consumption, manufacture and trade: mainly VAT and IPT, but also customs duties, excise duties, Air Passenger Duty and a range of environmental taxes. Transfer Pricing Financial Services

You’ll be analysing various industries, companies and processes to determine where value is created and how business activities are rewarded. You’ll determine where value is created and how business activities are rewarded. And ultimately the work you do will influence how transfer prices are set within the client’s organisation, and how the client’s transfer-pricing policy is presented to the tax authorities.

Customer Operational Taxes & Technology, Financial Services

Over recent years financial institutions around the globe have invested enormous resources to respond to the ever growing customer and operational tax challenges in a period of disruptive technology. You will be helping our financial institution clients design and implement solutions to comply with the Customer Tax Transparency agenda. This will include managing constant technical changes and also the impact of wider business change to maintain compliance in a way that is cost effective and customer focussed. You will develop strong business tax advisory skills in this fast moving and innovative area.

All Tax Graduates have to study for a professional qualification as part of their contract, with most studying for a Chartered Accountancy qualification with ICAS or the Chartered Tax Advisor qualification with CIOT.
