Job description

The opportunity

Assurance plays a vital role in maintaining public confidence in the world's capital markets and giving other stakeholders confidence in the financial information reported by our clients. Our Assurance team at EY work closely with some of the world’s most influential organisations and governments, understanding their businesses and the risks they face to help them be more successful.

Within our programme you will either be aligned to our UK & Ireland team or our Financial Services business. As part of the UKI Graduate Assurance Experience programme you’ll gain exposure in areas including Government and Public Sector (GPS), Corporate audit and Fraud Investigations.  As part of our Financial Services business you’ll work with our wide array of clients within Banking and Capital Markets, Wealth & Asset Management and Insurance and Pensions. In both areas, you will experience and build skills across different areas and industry sectors.

Whether it be time spent in UK & Ireland or our Financial Services practice, EY will give you unrivalled experiences and insights to allow you to specialise your expertise as you develop your career with EY across a range of clients.

At the end of the training contract you will be a qualified accountant with three years of practical experience.  You will have also built up a fantastic network of people who will mentor you to ensure you reach your potential

You will get early exposure to influential people ranging from CEO’s, CFO’s and other members of the client’s team.  You will build relationships with these people who will share their experiences with you which last a lifetime.

Your key responsibilities

You can expect an exciting range of experiences and opportunities during your time on the programme.

The main responsibilities of a graduate are:
·  Checking the accuracy of our clients financial statements
·  Understanding our clients businesses and processes

At the end of the training contract you will be effectively leading teams and be responsible for the efficient running of the project.  You will also be responsible for the quality of the work performed by your team and report directly to senior members of the firm.  Each engagement is like a small business which you will in essence be managing, as well as being responsible for booking team members to perform the work, identifying opportunities to bill the client, monitoring the profitability of your project and be the main point of contact at the client.

A role in EY Assurance, combined with achieving an internationally recognised qualification, should not be underestimated in terms of the experiences it opens up. Having gained a grounding in the finance industry and exposure to our large client base, you’ll have a wealth of practical experience to compound your theoretical knowledge. And this will open opportunities both inside and outside EY.

You will join us following successful completion of a university Honours degree (or equivalent) and spend three years on the programme. During your time you’ll complete either an ICAS or ICAEW qualification.

As well as your professional training, you'll also develop essential know-how through a range of activities. Over the years you may experience web-based learning, shadowing senior colleagues and team members, secondments and training courses with our in-house experts.
