Job description

IT Risk & Assurance (ITRA) Summer Internship Programme

Every challenge and every opportunity an organisation faces today demands change. And with change comes risk. Some risks you can see, some you can predict, some you can plan for, and some you can’t. Our risk team helps our clients find where there’s opportunity in risk (positive impact), protect against the risk you can see (negative impact), and identify risks they don’t know about yet (limit damage). Our services mitigate risk, reduce the cost of control and help create value for our clients.

Within the context of information technology risk, our clients use their IT and data to gain a competitive advantage, customer intimacy and operational excellence. Today IT and data management are such an integral part of our clients' operations that even the smallest mistake or security breach can have a substantial impact on their reputation and business performance.
In joining our IT Risk and Assurance programme you’ll work closely with some of the world's most prestigious organisations on key IT issues. We assist clients to assess, remediate, transform and monitor their risk and control landscape, either as stand-alone services, or working alongside our consulting colleagues to deliver strategic change initiatives.

You will also develop essential know-how through a range of on-the-job coaching, mentoring and support. On joining, you’ll have an intensive induction course to develop your core consulting skills and get you ready to start a project and interact with the client.

You'll be assigned a counsellor on day one who will work closely with you to identify your strengths and potential areas of development.

Your key responsibilities:

From day one you will play an integral role within ITRA engagements, working directly with clients. You may be auditing major global organisations across various sectors, helping them to gain confidence over the quality of their data and IT security controls to support an effective financial audit.

You will quickly develop a strong working knowledge of EY’s audit methodology, and working as part of a wider team you will be responsible for a variety of challenging tasks. These include taking ownership for testing and reviewing the effectiveness of key IT controls, reviewing business processes, assessing large scale business change projects and performing data analysis over critical financial information.

You will also be responsible for helping communicate the impact of your results and recommendations for improvement directly with clients.
Working on a variety of UK and multi-national IT audit engagements, by your second year you'll be taking on greater responsibility, coaching others and developing your client relationship skills – and in some cases, already owning client relationships and building up your exceptional project management and teaming skills. You will also have exposure to working with EY personnel and clients from around the world.

We are looking ahead and we believe the work and training you do here lays the groundwork for a fast-moving, high-potential career with us. During this time we will help you develop your technical and personal competencies to achieve to the best of your ability.

What we look for:

We look for individuals who are inquisitive, analytical, ambitious and great at working with people. You’ll need to be a good team player and demonstrate the potential to become a future business leader. You will need to be prepared to challenge us, to act on your own initiative and to make an impact on our teams and clients from day one.
In addition, you will need flexibility to travel to, and work in other locations.

Entry requirements:

You will either be looking for a four or six week summer placement before you start your last year of an Honours degree, or before you start a 1-year Master’s degree.   The programme will start with learning fundamental business skills and end with you doing the same work as our graduates. You’ll be part of a team doing work for real clients.

We offer a competitive remuneration package where you’ll be rewarded for your individual and team performance.
