Job description

ENGIE are recruiting for a  Shift Maintenance Electrician to be based in Queen Elizabeth Hospital 21 Mindelsohn Way, Edgbaston Birmingham, B15 2WB. This is a permanent full time role working  37.5  hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, shift allowance and benefits package.

This role is an important role within the workflow process; the person will be actively involved in developing detailed knowledge, and the maintenance of the core plant and equipment on the Birmingham New Hospital Estate.
To undertake improvement work, maintenance and repairs of plant services and physical assets including testing and routine fault finding. 

Participating in a rotational shift pattern of  4 on 4 off
, providing a 24/7 attendance on site.

The responsibilities will mainly be at the Acute Hospital, but will also include duties at the Mental Health unit and Retained Estate. 

To undertake any reasonable duties to maintain all services to the NHS Trust(s)


Main Responsibilities/Duties Include:

·  Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to his/her own trade, without supervision.
·  Plan and set up New Work appropriate to his/her own trade using relevant tools, equipment and machinery, without supervision, as appropriate to his/her grade.
·  To carry out unsupervised maintenance, fault finding and repairs and report any defects or unusual circumstances to the Charge Hand.
·  Requirement to learn new techniques with training as necessary.
·  To understand and participate in the general working of the hospital, so that work can be carried out in the most efficient manner and be pro-active in developing new ways of working.
·  To understand fully the inter-relationship between various maintenance crafts.
·  To be knowledgeable of and to work to the current regulations, Codes of Practice, Health & Safety Regulations and all safety rules, RAMS, ENGIE and Statutory.
·  To be familiar with and understand the approved Code of Practice and guidance for the control of Legionellae in water systems (HSE Book L8) and statutory water regulations. 
·  To be deemed competent as per the Legionellae Policy.
·  Produce if necessary list of materials to carry out remedial repairs or alterations to current task. 
·  Report if stock of consumable items or spares are low.
·  Ensure all Planned Preventative Maintenance work is carried out effectively in compliance with maintenance instructions.
·  To understand the working of mechanical systems.
·  To maintain workshops and working environment in a clean, tidy and safe condition.
·  After appropriate training, work off tower scaffolding, MEWP’s, ladders, and step ladders and within confined spaces.
·  To record information as required for the operation of Maximo labour management or similar system.
·  To participate in the TOP 3 system.
·  Diagnose and repair complex faults in engineering installation, plant and equipment. 
·  To deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others. 
·  To inform Charge Hand/Supervisor of any delays or difficulties encountered.
·  To instruct others on the features associated with mechanical systems and other aspects of his/her work.
·  To maintain and efficiently run plant and equipment as appropriate to his/her own trade.
·  Drive ENGIE vehicles (if authorised).
·  Frequent requirement to exert intense physical effort for several short periods during a shift.
·  To be contacted by radio and/or PDA to receive instructions. This can involve frequent disruption to work patterns.
·  To be prepared to work in risk areas taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment.
·  Upon activation of fire alarms ensure availability to attend as directed, to liaise with Staff and Fire Brigade to determine cause.
·  Scope of work will include entering Mortuary, ITU’s, A&E admissions, Operating Theatres etc after reporting to Trust Staff. Occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances could be encountered.
·  To work on macerators, toilets, urinals and sinks, etc.  
·  Repair internal and external draining systems.  
·  Using personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to un-contained body fluids.
·  Carry out complex fault finding and diagnostics of plant equipment and systems. With use of fine tools and test equipment if required.
·  To be progressively and suitably trained* to acquire elements of extra skills with the intention of reaching levels of flexibility and competence to enable them to achieve and apply the ability where required to perform the above. Pass knowledge gained to others.

Required Experience:

·  City & Guilds Electrical qualifications. 
·  City and Guilds 17th Edition Regulations 
·  Indentured apprenticeship or equivalent
·  Clean UK Driving Licence Desirable.
