The working environment


As part of the Middle East growth strategy and to develop our expertise in Desalination, Tractebel is seeking a Principal Engineer with SWRO desalination experience from a Mechanical or Process Engineering background to join our Water Business line. The role would be based in our Dubai office, although being based in our Gurgaon office could be considered. 

The position will be for engagement in Technical Advisory, Owner’s and Lenders’ Engineer roles in the Middle East which would require both design knowledge and site experience. The ideal candidate will be able to provide techno-commercial inputs into proposals, work with developers on configuration selection and associated commercial aspects of an SWRO project. The aim of the role is to promote the developer’s competitiveness in the bid process and work in execution phase as Owner’s and Lender’s Engineer.

This role reports operationally to….  and will be based in UAE with regular travel across GCC countries and occasional travel to India / Europe.

Your function

·  Feed into the bidding strategy for the Water Desalination market and adapt it in a flexible manner to meet Tractebel’s regional objectives and growth plans
·  Review preliminary RFP requirements for Desalination, water reuse and IWPP projects
·  Implement prior knowledge and experience in the SWRO industry to engage in consultancy tasks related to desalination projects on Owners Engineering missions, Lenders Technical Advisory and Developers Engineer roles.
·  Work on tasks such as feasibility studies, Tender preparation including technical specifications, Technical reviews of submissions from developers / EPCs, Design review, Technical due diligence for lenders and Project management of SWRO projects   
·  Provide techno-commercial inputs including optimization of a developer’s costs by carefully evaluating all aspects of the EPC package with the technical team during the bid process
·  Review project agreements and financial model to provide inputs on contract management including WPA, LLA, ICA, EPC, O&M Contracts and term sheets
·  Capable of developing a strong network in the Middle East Desalination segment to create opportunities to sell our skill sets and global competence to Developers, EPC contractors, Banks, Municipalities, Ministries and other Government Entities
·  Participate in building a winning strategy for the desalination segment as a part of the global desalination competence centre to be established in the region
·  Assess market competition by benchmarking against competitors
·  Understand Tractebel’s way of working and leverage our global capabilities from other Business entities internally

Qualifications

· 
10+ years’ experience in desalination, mostly with EPC’s / IWP’s / Engineering Consultants for RO projects in the Middle East region

· 
An understanding of the design consultants / owners’ engineer / lenders technical advisor’s position on a project and how to sell these roles to certain types of client

· 
Experience in desalination tenders, bidding process and commercial aspects of

· 
desalination projects

· 
Exposure to project and engineering management of SWRO projects including pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, concept design, design review and technical advisor roles, functional specification, detailed design, commissioning, testing and acceptance

· 
Experience in RO processes and equipment including pre- and post-treatment for both municipal and industrial utility owners

· 
Knowledge of the latest innovations in the desalination industry and the ability to think outside the box on energy optimization and process development with a view to drive cost efficiency over the plant’s lifecycle

· 
Fluent communication skills in English. Arabic would be an advantage
