ENGIE are recruiting for a Porter/Helpdesk Operator to be based in the University Hospital of North Durham, North Road, Durham DH1 5TW.  This is a Zero Hours role, on a salary of £7.90 per hour.

General Overview:

The successful candidate will provide an effective, responsive porter service of a routine and non-routine nature throughout the hospital, ensuring a high quality image and standards established within the department are maintained.To work under the direction of porter supervisor, delivering an efficient and effective service. The Porter will be trained in all tasks and duties will be allocated within the following groupings of tasks. Goods yard, Stores, Patient movement, Medical gas storage and movement, Clean and Dirty linen movement, waste and mail.
Main Responsibilities/Duties Include:

·  Undertake the collection of refuse, cardboard, dirty laundry, clinical waste etc and segregation of the same for disposal and transfer to respective areas.
·  Responsible for reporting incidents requiring pest control and supporting and assisting the cleaning and maintenance tasks involved with pest control.
·  Undertakes the delivery/collection of laundry, pharmacy supplies, blood, specimens and patients notes as scheduled and directed.
·  Undertakes the delivery, collection and sorting of mail and postal packages throughout the hospital.
·  Responsible for the safe waste movement and safe waste storage (in line with Trust policy/BBW LOPs, policy and procedures).
·  Respond to calls from the Maximo dispatcher within the Helpdesk to ensure portering contract requirements are met.
·  Understand, apply, or provide support in emergency procedures including major alerts and fire procedures.
·  Undertake goods receipt within the goods yard.
·  Operate battery operated equipment.
·  Responsible for the transfer of stock from trust central stores.
·  Collect dirty laundry and waste from designated locations.
·  Required to undertake ad-hoc requests as required including the movement and storage and disposal of furniture, office equipment, and ward equipment including heavy items as required.
·  Assist security when necessary.
·  Receive medical gases, sign delivery sheets and check stock level.
·  Collection and Delivery of medical gases at ward level (empty for full process).
·  Responsible for general upkeep of own work locations.
·  Responsible for escorted patient moves, Beds, Wheel Chairs or Trolleys.
·  Responsible for the distribution of non-stock items / goods to wards / departments, ensuring that a signature is obtained on delivery.
·  Movement of deceased patients
·  To communicate with clinical staff, managers and supervisors on a daily basis within the allocated area of responsibility
·  To respond to patient and visitor queries and refer if necessary
·  The post holder may be required, on occasions, to provide support in other service areas as directed by Engie Facilities Management

Skills / Experience Required:

Willingness to undertake mandatory training in the following (training to be provided by ENGIE to successful candidate) 

·  Manual handling
·  Health & Safety at work, COSHH and Fire Safety
·  Leadership.
·  Financial control
·  Corporate policies and procedures

·  Oversee all FM service purchases/ labour spend, and apply budget controls
·  Communicate with clinical staff, managers and supervisors daily, within the allocated area of responsibility.
·  Respond to patient and visitor queries, referring as necessary.
·  May be required, on occasion, to provide support in other service areas as directed by ENGIE Facilities Management.
·  Flexibility re hours: willing to work early starts, late finishes and weekends
