The Environment
The Radwaste & Radiation Protection Group, which is part of the Radwaste & Decommissioning Department of the Nuclear Entity, is assisting customers of the nuclear segment, with high added value consulting and engineering services for the management of radioactive waste and the decommissioning of nuclear installations as well as radiation protection and radiological characterization studies.

Your function

You contribute to the preparation of bids, the engineering studies and the projects regarding:

Radwaste management and decommissioning of nuclear installations by developing an in-depth expertise about:

·  Radwaste treatment and conditioning techniques and associated systems;
·  Radwaste interim storage buildings;
·  Radwaste surface and geological disposal sites;
·  Decommissioning of nuclear installations, including the set-up of preliminary and final decommissioning plans with the associated costing studies. Radiation protection by developing an in-depth expertise about:

·  Radiation shielding calculations and ALARA follow-up of nuclear installations, including interventions on site when needed;
·  Radiation protection codes, such as Microshield, MCNP, RayXpert…;
·  Specifying, ordering and commissioning radiation monitoring systems.

Radiological characterization by developing an in-depth expertise about:

·  In-house developed computer codes for the radiological characterization of operational and decommissioning waste;
·  The development of methodologies for the radiological characterization of radwaste and nuclear sites, buildings and equipment.

·  You have a master's degree or PhD in engineering or sciences, preferably in physics or chemistry, with a strong technical background and a will to further develop your technical expertise;
·  You are fluent in French or Dutch and in English;
·  You have several years of experience (at least 5) in the nuclear industry and preferably in radwaste management, decommissioning and radiation protection;
·  You are flexible and creative in finding technical solutions;
·  You are autonomous and you like teamwork;
·  You are open to gain new competencies as well as to share them;
·  You are willing to provide guidance to less experienced colleagues;
·  You are at ease with IT-tools and familiar with the MS-Office software suite, Visual Basic and Access.
