Engie are recruiting for a Maintenance Assistant to be based in Engie,Mental Health Unit Queen Elizabeth Hospital 21 Mindelsohn Way, Vincent Court B15 2WB. This is a permanent full time role working 37.5 hours per week (Mon- Fri 08.00-16.30). On offer is a competitive salary. The role holder will report to the Maintenance Supervisor.
General Overview: 

• Scope of work will include entering secure Mental Health departments containing service users undergoing various psychiatric treatment after reporting to departmental staff. Occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances could be encountered. 
•Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to his/her skill level, without supervision.
•To perform a wide range of work to his/her skill level. e.g. lamping, unblocking toilets, minor painting, assisting when Estates carrying out fire alarm system testing, monitoring engine and load readings when testing generators, taking and recording tap temperatures for legionella prevention, fault-finding on non-complex equipment and assisting in electrical/plumbing/building installation work. 
•To manufacture, assemble and install new work as appropriate to his/her 
skill level.
•To understand the general working of the hospital's Estates Department, 
So that work can be carried out in the most efficient manner and be pro-active in developing new ways of working. 
•To use all relevant tools and equipment as appropriate to his/her skill level.
•Requirement to learn new techniques with training as necessary. This may include for example Procedures for releasing trapped persons in lifts and Statutory requirements for ladder inspections.
•To understand fully the inter-relationship between various maintenance crafts.
•To maintain and efficiently run plant and equipment as appropriate to his/her skill level.
•Understand requirements and work as a safety man for Estates staff working at heights or in confined spaces.
•To receive work notes and to carry out repairs as directed.  
•To carry out unsupervised minor maintenance and repairs and report and defects, unusual circumstances, delays or difficulties encountered to the Chargehand and with departments.
•To record information as required for the operation of labour management 
or similar system.
•Drive Department vehicles as required (if authorised).
•Frequent requirement to exert intense physical effort for several short 
periods during shift.
•To be at all times contactable by radio at work to receive instructions, this can involve frequent interruptions to work patterns.
•Scope of work will include entering Mortuary, ITU’s, A&E admissions, Operating Theatres etc after reporting to departmental staff. Occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances could be encountered.
•To be prepared to work in hazardous areas taking all safety measures to   prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment. Use departments body fluid spillage kit, if required, as per Trust Policy.
•Upon activation of fire alarms ensure availability to attend as directed, to   liaise with staff and Fire Brigade to determine cause.
•Carry out routine fault finding and diagnostics of plant equipment and systems. With use of fine tools and test equipment if required.
•To be progressively and suitable trained* to acquire elements of extra skills with the intention of reaching levels of flexibility and competence to enable them to achieve and apply the ability where required to perform the above. Pass knowledge gained, to others.

•Previous appropriate working experience or training, in skills development, including the safe use of tools and equipment.
•Experience in a building maintenance or industrial environment.
•To apply the application gained through experience in dealing with a range of work procedures and practices some of which are no-routine.
•Able to work as part of a team.
•Able to record information accurately e.g. log sheets, list of material requirements. 
•Ability to use hand tools, associated trade tools, equipment and machinery for maintenance, repair and minor improvement/new work to required standard.
