Global Energy Management (GEM) is one of  ENGIE’s  Business Units. We deliver services in supply and logistics management, asset management, risk management, market access management, while contributing to the market understanding, design and efficiency and developing market solutions to accelerate the energy transition.

GEM manages one of the largest and most diversified energy portfolios in Europe, including electricity, natural gas, bulk commodities and environmental products.

With 5 trading platforms and activities in more than 50 countries, GEM has an extended geographical coverage in Europe, Asia-Pacific and in the US. It employs 1,300 people around the world.

 

Main Activities

·  Provide legal support for GEM’s business development projects (including market access), acquisitions/investments and partnerships
·  Identify, set up and maintain for each business development project a compliant, cost-efficient structure according to the policies and any relevant European and local regulations (e.g. regulation on the investment/financial services, …) for conducting the GEM activities in a given jurisdiction;
·  Identify any regulatory constraints/obligations to the development of these new activities, markets, products or services;
·  Set up and maintain any authorizations or regulatory obligations (e.g. licenses, …) for conducting the activities by dealing with the relevant public authorities, financial and energy regulators, TSO, …. and ensure to get the relevant market access/framework in place (e.g. with the exchanges, clearing houses, …); Manage the regulatory dashboard ;
·  Deal with any regulatory issues raised by the setting-up, structuring and marketing of regulated activities in collaboration with markets compliance and regulatory officers;
·  Contribute to a continuous regulatory survey on the financial, energy and commodity sectors, identify potential risks related to new regulations and advise on the implementation thereof in the GEM organization, including in Engie Global Markets as a regulated investment services provider;
·  Participate in market working groups and forums in relation to the market framework and regulatory set up ;
·  Manage in close collaboration with the acquisitions coordinator the GEM’s acquisitions and investments projects ;
·  Ensure the legal follow-up of the partnerships in place in collaboration with the relevant business;
·  Drafting of internal legal notes for presentation of projects or products to the relevant internal committees (New Product Committees, Credit Committees etc...);
·  Encourage a culture of compliance with laws and ethical standards of the Group;
·  Supervision and management of external counsel

c   Challenges

·  Multi-jurisdictional files; build and manage the legal, regulatory and contractual infrastructure in every country
·  Transversal files requiring coordination between one and more BUs
·  Consolidating the new products processes to provide legal analysis and input on new products and business development projects

External Interfaces will include:

Law firms, trading counterparties, National Regulatory Authorities, Transmission System Operators, exchanges, energy and financial regulators, public authorities …

QUALIFICATIONS

·  Law Degree preferably from a European university. Any other master is a plus.
·  3 to 6 years’ experience as a lawyer or legal advisor. Experience in energy, business development projects or financial services regulation is required
·  Good understanding of how the energy markets work and contractual framework surrounding energy transactions. Customer focus
·  Investigative and analytical  
·  Strong interpersonal skills,  excellent communication and negotiation skills, team spirit;
·  Ability to work efficiently in a broad cultural spectrum;
·  High sense of integrity and work ethic
·  Fluent  mandatory  in French and English 

·          

Occasional travel will be required for this role
