Job description

EN GIE are recruiting for an Electrical/Mechanical Supervisor to be based at  Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, B15 2WB. This is a permanent full time role working 08:00 - 16:30 Monday to Friday. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

General Overview:  
To supervise the maintenance team to provide an effective and efficient maintenance service. Core elements will include Health and Safety, communication at all levels, supervising within HR Policies, advising management on statutory compliance, safe and efficient use of resources, first line energy management.  

Duties will include:

·  Provide leadership of Estates direct labour and contractors, to manage PPM, breakdown, patient damage and new works issues accordingly, to implement health and safety policies, trust operational policies etc.
·  Responsible for ensuring that all response and rectification times are met, and repairs are undertaken diligently, with due care and without undue delay.
·  Responsible for the inspection, checking and testing of plant and equipment as directed, in liaison with the users.
·  Responsible for undertaking non-routine maintenance activities i.e. patient damage, new works as and when required to ensure building efficiency and safety are maintained.
·  Responsible for the safety of mechanical and electrical plant and equipment and for safe working practices.
·  Responsible for the preparation of detailed lists of materials and spares required for the execution of maintenance, repairs, installations etc as required.
·  Responsible for ensuring that all surplus materials, scrap, rubbish etc are removed from the work area and that the work area is left clean and tidy upon completion of work undertaken.
·  Responsible for ensuring that planned preventive maintenance work is undertaken promptly and efficiently, ensuring that all necessary log/record sheets are accurately completed. Also responsible for keeping the Technical Services Manager fully informed of any delay in execution of any duties assigned.
·  Responsible for fault finding diagnosis and fault rectification to ensure building systems and equipment remain in efficient and safe operation.
·  Responsible for actively participating in providing information based on experience, with regard to updating or setting up planned preventive maintenance schedules.
·  Responsible for the accurate completion of individual and staff time sheets on a daily basis.
·  Responsible for the care and securing of tools, equipment and materials – especially in-patient areas.
·  Responsible for bringing to the attention of the Technical Services Manager any unsafe working conditions, working practices, unsafe plant or equipment encountered during the execution of duties.
·  Responsible for the execution of any other estates and facilities related duties in an emergency/urgent situation, as directed by the Technical Services Manager.
·  Responsible for participating in the ‘on call’ rota as and when required, after suitable training and relevant experience is gained.
·  Responsible for supervision and participating in a ‘recall to work’ procedure for emergency repairs as required when not on call.
·  Responsible for undertaking flexible working practices across the whole range of estates services. This will include electrical, mechanical, plumbing, cleaning, building etc – duties as directed by the Technical Services Manager.
·  Responsible for undertaking work in any other building/property/location as required.
·  Directly accountable for day to day matters to the Technical Services Manager.
·  Responsible for liaising with other Managers/Trust Managers.
·  To supervise the day to day maintenance of the sites.
·  Responsible for the maintenance and operation of services to the sites including supervision of contractors.
·  To establish and monitor systems to ensure that maintenance standards are to the optimum with the resources available.
·  Responsible for advising management where there is a demonstrable shortfall in resources to meet the standards required for patient environment and to meet legislation requirements.
·  Support supervision & action of any management action plans.
·  To ensure compliance with all policies relating to receipt/storage, economic use of goods and services.
·  Responsible for the production of the relevant statistics for use in maintaining budgetary control.
·  Responsible for reporting on the labour issues connected with this post.
·  Responsible for ensuring that all statutory maintenance requirements are complied with.
·  Responsible for maintaining comprehensive maintenance records.
·  Responsible for establishing irregular maintenance requirements.
·  Responsible for assisting management with development and the implementation of relevant approved new works, inclusive of financial control.
·  Responsible for updating on new technology and advising on any future requirements to the staff training programme.
·  Responsible for ensuring that energy management systems work at optimum efficiency.
·  Responsible for advising management on future requirements for savings and better methods of energy housekeeping, in line with any energy policy.
·  Responsible for promoting flexible working across all maintenance related disciplines, to ensure maximum efficiency with regards to use of manpower and resources.
·  Responsible for undertaking annual appraisal with individual staff, to draw up and implement action plan re training requirements accordingly.
·  To actively identify continuing professional development requirements, and demonstrate progress towards enhancing knowledge and training.

Qualifications or Required Experience:   
Essential:  

·  Must Have attended and passed City and Guilds 236 parts 1 & 2 18th Edition IEE Regulations.
·  Demonstrable supervisory experience in a maintenance role.
·  Healthcare working experience
Desirable:  

·  Post Apprenticeship qualifications, formal certificated training in relevant areas.
·  2 years post qualifying relevant experience in supervisory role.
·  Experience within the healthcare sector, and day to day operation and maintenance of varying types of healthcare building/premises.

Please note: A minimum of 2 years living in UK is required due to the security checks required for the role. You will be required to undertake a DBS Check prior to commencing the role. The offer will be subject to receiving Security Clearance (SC).
