Context:

Innovation Squad Program A community of Innovation Catalysts to solve strategic business challenges and deliver impactful digital services among Energy Global Management solutions teams During a twenty months period, you will join on a permanent contract, an international and fast moving business unit in a major energy group to work on different challenges linked to data and digital transformation : that is the DNA of the Innovation Squad Program. An 20-month rotational program built on three pillars : - A structured immersion program : Throughout the program, you will unleash your entrepreneur talent through two ten-month rotations during which we will rely on you to solve various challenge with innovative solutions in order to foster value creation and energy transition. - Coaching and support : You will be supported by a mentor and you will also be equipped at all stages of the program with the best methods, co-development approach, experiences through events and entrepreneurs networks to help you succeed throughout the 20-month program. - An inspiring community : Each challenge of the program is led by a squad, composed by an intern expert, an operational mentor and you. The three of you will gather your different expertise and skills to deliver and solve the challenge. Also, you will learn from different experts and facilitate the sharing of best practices within the organization. Your Challenge: Improve the precision of the short-term forecasts for ENGIE gas portfolio in France ENGIE holds a diversified clients portfolio in France with Giants, BtB and BtC customers, plus a biomethane production. Forecasting the consumption of our portfolio is key in order to make the right decision for balancing purposes.

Role:

This challenge will consist in using big data, advanced analytics and data science to develop forecasting models which would enable portfolio managers to take the best optimization decision.

Main Activities:

Uncertainty of the gas consumption of our own customers is a very tough challenge to handle for portfolio managers. On short-term maturities (intra-month), the idea is to have the right anticipation of the thermo-sensitivity and economical/industrial risks of our mixed client basis prior to the actual deliveries, in order to adapt our hedging strategy following market trends. Over the recent past years, balancing rules and overall competitiveness on short term have largely increased, pushing the need to improve the accuracy of our forecasts. Therefore, it is expected to: · Take profit of our storage and computations capacities to access unexplored data and handle large datasets · Take advantage of the latest developments in data science In order to: · Improve the accuracy of our forecasting model (following KPI such as MAPE or MAE) · Reduce explicit imbalance cost (easy to measure penalties, up to 1 MEUR per year) · Provide backtesting solutions to measure the reduction of non-explicit imbalance cost · Build dashboards to ensure operational, quantitative and qualitative follow-up (up to real-time) · Provide guidelines to portfolio managers to optimize the management of their customer portfolio

Education and professional background:

· Master of Science or PhD, specialized in statistics or data science · 2-3 years working experienc

Hard skills:

· Strong analytical and programming skills: Ability to build models + ability to apply data science & machine learning to operational topics. · Experience in a trading environment: Ability to work with traders, to translate market analyses into propositions/Strategies and to communicate them clearly · Good knowledge of energy markets · Fluent in English · SQL, Python, R · Big data (Hadoop), Scala and any other language would be a plus · Dataiku DSS would be a plus as well

Soft skills:

· Good communication skills: Ability to explain complex issues; ability to work in a multi-cultural environment · Reactivity, creativity, initiative, ability to cope with tight deadlines, team spirit
