Your Challenge: Improve the precision of the short-term forecasts for ENGIE gas portfolio in France ENGIE holds a diversified clients portfolio in France with Giants, BtB and BtC customers, plus a biomethane production. Forecasting the consumption of our portfolio is key in order to make the right decision for balancing purposes.
This challenge will consist in using big data, advanced analytics and data science to develop forecasting models which would enable portfolio managers to take the best optimization decision.
Uncertainty of the gas consumption of our own customers is a very tough challenge to handle for portfolio managers. On short-term maturities (intra-month), the idea is to have the right anticipation of the thermo-sensitivity and economical/industrial risks of our mixed client basis prior to the actual deliveries, in order to adapt our hedging strategy following market trends. Over the recent past years, balancing rules and overall competitiveness on short term have largely increased, pushing the need to improve the accuracy of our forecasts. Therefore, it is expected to: · Take profit of our storage and computations capacities to access unexplored data and handle large datasets · Take advantage of the latest developments in data science In order to: · Improve the accuracy of our forecasting model (following KPI such as MAPE or MAE) · Reduce explicit imbalance cost (easy to measure penalties, up to 1 MEUR per year) · Provide backtesting solutions to measure the reduction of non-explicit imbalance cost · Build dashboards to ensure operational, quantitative and qualitative follow-up (up to real-time) · Provide guidelines to portfolio managers to optimize the management of their customer portfolio
