Job description



An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chemistry Cell Leader within our Quality Control team. You will lead a team of 9, performing analytical testing in a very fast paced laboratory. The team are responsible for analysis and reporting of results of all finished products, intermediates, raw material and ad hoc samples according to DANONE Medical standards and requirements. Also ensuring Nutricia Liverpool delivers products of consistent, specified quality and uncompromising safety, in line with Danone’s Medical Nutrition Quality Ambition.

You will be responsible for driving a Right First Time culture throughout the organisation and maintaining and improving quality standards using principles of lean manufacturing techniques. Critical to this role is the experience of managing and leading direct reports to achieve operational excellence.

You will be responsible for analysis and reporting of results of all finished products, intermediates, raw material and ad hoc samples according to DANONE Medical standards and requirements. Raising of and active involvement in investigations to determine route cause of out of specification results or non-conforming product. Equally working in diverse cross functional teams to drive continuous improvement including problem solving groups is essential.

Objectives of the role include:

Accountable for driving growth within the team through individual development plans and working with direct reports for their personal development.
• Accountable for the core activities and KPI's within the cell structure.
• Responsible for analysis and reporting of results of all finished products, intermediates, raw material and ad hoc samples according to DANONE Medical standards and requirements.
• Raising of and active involvement in investigations to determine route cause of out of specification results or non-conforming product.
• Working in diverse cross functional teams to drive continuous improvement including problem solving groups.
• Plan and deliver daily/weekly/monthly operational activities.
• Identify and deliver longer term continuous improvement projects such as the introduction of new methods and equipment including their validation.
• The raising of purchase orders for consumables and equipment and the raising of documentation for CAPEX expenditure.
• Project planning and management.
• Act as a laboratory manager for the purpose of ISO 17025 in conjunction with the technical managers and other laboratory managers. Providing advice on methodologies and implications.
• Facilitate adequate supervision of testing.
• Writing/updating policies, methods or SOP's and ownership and approval of documentation.
Responsible for GLP and laboratory standards.

Strong knowledge of laboratory processes is essential. Experience of ISO17025 & LIMS experience are desirable.

·  Relevant academic qualifications – Degree in chemistry or similar scientific discipline minimum.
·  Experience in leading teams in Pharma or FMCG environment. Minimum 2 Years.
·  Experience working in a laboratory or leading a laboratory team. Minimum 5 Years.
·  Capable of working on multiple priorities and setting targets and timeframes.
·  Project management skills.
·  Agility - Adaptable enough to work in an environment that changes / challenges daily.
·  Ability to work in a pressurised, heavily targeted and measured environment.
