Learning Objective:

This position will allow the team member to gain insight to the workings of factory planning and automation engineering processes. This internship will expose the team member to all levels in the organization to assist in building a resume that will allow the team member to become competitive in the job market.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Automation Engineering Manager, the intern provides the best possible support by assisting with all aspects of factory planning and automation engineering and helps to ensure that the ongoing plant expansion project runs smoothly.

·  Understand technical standards, requirements and drawings

·  Study and improve plant safety measures

·  Training and experience in core area of study

·  Lead and implement small projects

·  Develop automation system solutions in hardware and software

·  Feasibility analysis of optimization projects

·  Coordinate project steps with team members

·  Assist and lead meetings

·  Create and present process documentation and status/result reports

·  Competent contact for external business partners

·  Assist where needed by the department or other areas

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering is required to participate in the intern program.

Skills:

Analytical thinking, ability to work systematically and independently, ability to develop complex solutions.

Opportunities:

Learn or improve the German language; cultural exchange with international team members and interns.

Location information

Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is part of the division Mercedes-Benz Vans of Daimler AG, Germany. It is a plant in South Carolina that assembles Sprinter vans for the U.S. market under the brands Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner, with headquarters in Charleston, SC. The midsize Metris van was added to the assembly line in 2015.

Mercedes-Benz Vans announced in March 2015 that it will invest $500 million in construction of a new Sprinter production plant, in addition to an expansion of existing assembly operations. The new facility will be also located in Charleston, and will provide up to 1,300 jobs.

More than 130,000 Sprinter have been assembled in Charleston and delivered to destinations in the U.S. since 2006. The U.S. is now the third largest market for Sprinter vans, after Germany and the U.K.
