- one of the major R&D centers of Saint-Gobain worldwide is located in the Minhang Development Zone, at the heart of its Shanghai industrial complex, neighbouring 6 of our plants involved in Performance Plastics, Glass for Automotive, Abrasives and Ceramics.
Mirroring the extraordinary richness of Saint-Gobain technology, this Center hosts scientists in almost all advanced material sciences from ceramics to polymers, glass to iron cast, crystals to abrasives, inorganic grains & powders to refractories…and reaches variety of research fields including: material science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, modeling and building energy as long as grinding, coating, Optical Detection etc.
The center builds a strong technical competency in product development, in-depth scientific research and analysis, rapid response to business requests and frontline technology development. Equipped with modern scientific equipments, SGRS is taking part in fast-changing technical evolution. Polymer material processing, Abrasives, Powder processing and Optics Inspection are four established technical areas which are in direct linkage with SG products. Poste et missions:
Objective of the Position
Computation and Instrumentation Technologies (CIT) Department is leading R&D activities related to Modeling, Digital and Building Science for Saint Gobain Group’s activities in China.
CIT Department is looking for a Data scientist engineer to enlarge competency of the team in order to support the global strategy of digitalization of industrial plants.
In this role, you will design, develop and maintain image processing algorithms, data analysis routines and machine learning/data mining methods to be used in measurement projects/big data applications for process control and/or quality control.
You will also be involved into various R&D projects such as building monitoring and will contribute to the digitalization of Saint Gobain Research Shanghai.
Candidate should have a deep knowledge on image processing, data treatment, machine learning (including statistical analysis, feature detection, pattern recognition) and experience on developing functions, modules for industry system with C/C++, Python, Sharp.
Principal Accountabilities ( % of time, What, How and Why)
1/ (5%) As Saint Gobain’s employee, you will follow Health and Safety regulations and will be assigned personal objectives to contribute to the overall efficiency of the company.
2/ (50%) You will develop and maintain methods such as image processing, data analysis and machine learning to be used in process or quality control for different plants of Saint Gobain in China (glass for automotive, abrasives, plastics, ceramics).
3/ (30%) You will work closely with team from the plants as well as R&D teams from each business unit concerned to get familiar with their products and processes. You will support them in Industry 4.0/ Smart manufacturing projects and gather knowledge of solutions developed (advantages and drawbacks).
4/ (15%) Saint Gobain Research Shanghai is one important contributor of innovation for the all Saint Gobain R&D organization (8 R&D centers in the world). You will participate to transversal programs (Sensors and connected objects, Non Destructive Evaluation, Data Science) with other researchers and contribute to the innovation process of the company.  
Profil:
1/ Position opened to Master degree (computer science or other)
2/ Strong skills in object oriented programming (Python, C/C++, Sharp)
3/ Good communication skills in English (oral and written), Chinese would be a plus
4/ Curiosity and willingness to work in a multi-disciplinary environment
