Job description

Salary: 100-120K euros

A leading fintech company builds the infrastructure that enables businesses in emerging markets to pay their international suppliers simply, quickly, and fairly.


Backed by $18M+ (Y Combinator, Creandum, General Catalyst + operators from Revolut, Stripe, Checkout), the company is building a modern alternative to the traditional banking system.


Today, international payments are slow, opaque, and expensive, especially for companies operating across borders in Africa and other emerging markets.


The company solves this with a product-first approach combining wallets, payment orchestration, and automation.

  • ~$1BN in annualised payment volume

  • ~$10M in annualised revenue

  • ~80 people across multiple countries


Some projects the team has been working on:



  • Automated payouts and AI invoice approval

  • Onboarding + payment automation with Swift network and banking partners across the world

  • WhatsApp bot that creates quotes for customers based on their responses

  • Self-serve onboarding flow that collects company information and KYC documents from customers

  • Asynchronous workers that OCR invoices

  • Internal tooling to manage and process millions of dollars of transactions

Missions



  • Join a small, high-performing team of engineers and product leaders shaping how to scale the platform and impact

  • Contribute to the product process from end-to-end, from ideation to building the UI, backend logic, deployment, feedback, and measurement

  • Communicate internally and externally about new features, collecting feedback pre-implementation or explaining them on launch

  • Define and manage delivery milestones, ensuring alignment between engineering and product priorities

  • Build intuitive and performant web interfaces for business owners in Africa

  • Implement IT security and data protection best practices in a regulated environment

  • Proactively drive architectural decisions to improve scalability, observability, and modularity of the codebase

  • Champion code quality through robust testing, documentation, and reviews

  • Identify opportunities for internal improvements to automate non-tech processes and enhance tech best practices to improve output and efficiency, including handling production incidents confidently

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to their professional growth through pairing, reviews, and feedback

  • Represent engineering in cross-functional discussions (including Finance, Operations, Senior Leadership) to translate business goals into technical plans

  • Set and uphold team standards for communication, collaboration, and technical excellence

Recruitment Process



  • Screen interview with Tech Recruiter (30 mins)

  • Technical challenge with a Principal Engineer (1 hr)

  • Deep dive interview (1 hr)

  • Founder chat (30 mins)

Desired profile

  1. Minimum 5 years of experience as a software engineer (sweet spot: 8–10 years, open up to 12–15 years)
  2. Experience in startups (Seed to Series B/C) with fast-paced, changing, and ambiguous environments
  3. True full-stack profile (not specialized only in backend or frontend)
  4. Mandatory skills: Typescript, React, Next.js, Node.js, Express, PostgreSQL, SQL
  5. Fluent in English and French
  6. Willing to work in a hybrid setup (3 days in the office: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
  7. A product mindset with focus on customer, business, and long-term impact
  8. Strong understanding of web development, frontend and backend best practices (mainly JavaScript technologies)
  9. Experience in a VC-backed or high-growth engineering team building products used by customers
  10. Comfortable working in an early-stage startup environment with high pace, rapid growth, involvement in entire product development, and ambiguity
  11. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
  12. You care about the mission and solving problems faced by African businesses
  13. Based in London or Paris
  14. Bonus: Speak and write in French & English
  15. Bonus: Experience in Fintech, payments, wallets or building ledgers
  16. Bonus: Expertise in security and data protection best practices needed in an FCA regulated business
